WEEI daytime producer incessantly texting 98.5's evening show?

Last night on the DA show they disclosed they've actually banned a texter because of his incessant and vulgar texting into the show, including 14 text messages on the night of the Wing Bowl (Feb. 4th I believe).
As part of the process of banning a phone number they're required to call the person, lo and behold they disclosed it's a daytime producer at WEEI, and it's strongly hinted from the Big Show (Andy or Brett?).

Good stuff, apparently the folks across the street from 98.5 are sweating this out a bit, be interesting to see if there's any punishment handed down.
 
Is this believable? I would think that Andy or Brett would be technicaly savvy enough not to do something like this. One thing is sure, I didn't like what I heard on either show. The two night guys sounded smarmy and the two morning guys sounded forced. I've never heard Dennis and Callahan even mention their names. Do these two guys talk about D&C often?
 
The 98.5 guys will acknowledge that WEEI exists where as 'eei acts like they're still the only game in town.
With regards to acting "swarmy" I think it's because weei has long been a pillar of arrogance (which is reflected in their morning and afternoon shows) while 98.5 tends to be more light hearted and don't take themselves so seriously.
 
What I heard was more than just acknowledging that 'EEI exists. They (T&R) were specifically making fun of John Dennis and as I said I've never heard D&C even mention their names or their station for that matter. In the morning are they even competing for the same audience? Isn't the D&C show number 1 and T&R number 8 in whatever demographic they're targeting?
 
I happen to know Andy and Brett very well. They are both friends of mine. Neither of them can operate a cell phone.

The simmering feud between the city’s two sports radio powerhouses boiled over today when a WEEI producer got slapped with a one-week suspension for texting “vulgar” messages to upstart rival the Sports Hub.

Andy Massaua, who works for Glenn Ordway’s “The Big Show,” was suspended today and has been banned from texting anyone at WBZ-FM (98.5).

“Andy (has to) think about, and reflect, on his irresponsible and sophomoric actions that will not be tolerated by this station,” said WEEI-AM (850) program honcho Jason Wolfe.

Well anybody who doesn't assume he's being recorded doing just about everything, is making a big mistake. People are watching/listening/taping.
It's too bad this didn't go on longer.

I agree on the pillar of arrogance part at EEI, but isn't it always smart not to mention the competition? I can remember the times I wanted but never mentioned "go watch Channel 5 and Mike Lynch" but always held it in.

Also former EEI turned Sportshubbers have sent out flashboy Mark Bertrain as the sacrificial lamb. Supposedly, he called Heslam and was out to make a name. Kinda of stupid story if you ask me, I still would like to know what the Sports Hub gains or EEI loses out of this. It must be a slow week.
 
This kind of 'negative publicity' is good to see, because it casts a spotlight on all those radio-industry juveniles who beat their chests about their Connecticut School of Broadcasting (R.I.P.) 'diplomas.' WEEI, after all, was supposedly going to be 'welcoming' the new competition when 98.5 went on the air. Wasn't that what the stuffed (also juvenile) suits at WEEI said? The sports-radio industry is full of the most insufferable people imaginable, especially in Boston. From the 'Listen-to-my-golden-radio-voice' Gary Tanguay to the Bombast of the 'Big Show,' both stations deserve whatever ridicule comes their way.
 
Does Andy have a drinking problem? He's always impressed me as the guy who actually runs the show, while Brett basically answers the phone. He has to have known that they can identify the texter. They're always talking about it. A couple of weeks ago Butch Sterns called someone back who was harrasing him and they (the Big Show) made a big deal out of it.

It's going to take more than this to make me listen to Felger.
 
God, what *******. In the Day Howard Hoffman, Tom Leykis, Barry Young and some other huge names made quite the sport of cranking every talk show they could get onto - which was any talk show they wanted to get onto - on both radio and TV (those that took calls). Posing as a minister Barry could get an unbroken string of whatever he wanted on the air; following back to back calls from the others who called in; one would say something to trigger the "dump". Shaken host would quickly bring up the next call after dump, that caller was the second of the trio and he would finish the tought started by the first. The third was Rev. Barry who would then softly and dripping of nice object to what he just heard, by repeating each and every word as many times as it took for the poor host to squirm until Barry decided to end the call. Everybody then just sat back and enjoyed the response.

Even funnier were the calls they planted to cable shows of the day (pre-delay days for TV too I might ad). Those old tapes showed up at more than a few parties.
 
Ah, how do you spell cheap publicity trick now that we are about to lose the ratings war??? Let's pick our best half-witted dumb ass to do something stupid to get people to listen to us again.

You can't convince me that the guy that produces the show doesn't know about caller ID and how texting works, but you can convince me that he is stupid enough to listen to the Diminutive Dweeb (Ordway) who supposedly paid him per message to do it.
 
Speaking of crank calls--non talk host-performed, though--a friend of mine said he once called up Jerry Williams and got into a political discussion then suddenly said, 'the bleeding head of Arnold Palmer' and hung up (that's
a sacred ceremony done by the parody religion Church of the SubGenius). Jerry no doubt said "they're out there".

Media satirists Negativland would do stuff on the Over the Edge show (KPFA, Berkeley) would they would prank
other talk shows like "Roy Storey's Sportsline" (then play it back on the KPFA show). They'd have a guest on talking about a youth sports program or something and a caller would call in and act juvenile (or play PSAs they recorded off the radio over the phone), then called back later to apologize saying "well, now I
see the error of my ways and I've decided to take the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal savior and ask him to
give me another brain so I could become a half-wit." (Storey: "Did you get...uh, did you get the other brain?
Aw, he's hung up.") Then the caller would call back yet again and spit out, "Burn! Condemn!" (hang up)

Well, no internet as we know it back in the mid 80s so people had to get their jollies in other ways.

Two other famous prank callers--maybe they were the same guy?--was the guy who'd call up Jerry Williams and say, "Hey Jerry..." and then let out a very loud "Bronx cheer"...and the guy Howie calls "The Boston
Flusher". "Hey Howie..." ---and he flushes the john.

The Herald didn't need a source you idiot. The Sports Hub outed him on-air during D.A.'s show on Thursday night and the segment was then posted on their website. Friday morning, Toucher and Rich did another segment about this and had Amendolara's producer on to talk about it. The Herald didn't write a story until Friday night after it was clearly out there that this had happened.

Supposedly Heslam called everybody she knew at these stations on Friday trying to get people to talk about it.

My hunch is that Wolfe is more upset over 98.5's free publicity, not the content of the texts themselves. More and more, they look like the big bullies who can't take a return punch (reflected by their on-air talent, and now management) I like seeing EEI forced to accept some humility.

I agree. I listened to that segment again and it sounds to me like DA and his producer could have called Andy and confronted him but, instead, chose to run to their microphones as fast as their hands and knees would carry them and "tell" on him.

I have the utmost contempt for Felger, but I can't see, even him, doing something like this. He would find a better, more creative way to retaliate. These two sissy-boys should be laughed off the air.
