WEEI/ESPN

I heard JT but never listened.
I would assume low-power ESPN affiliates in N.Bedford and W.Warwick are put on waivers as well?
 
It says "select" weekend shows.

The regulars will stay I'm sure.

But they'll use ESPN stuff early AM / latenights.

Til of course the assumed move to FM for WEEI and then the full time ESPN on 850 that is.

I still miss being able to switch to Mike and Mike when D&C are on a right wing rampage (I know, when are they not), so hopefully full time ESPN is back soon.
 
Blackroc I bet it will be a slow transition. or if the real plan is to make 850 full time ESPN like many assume then a lot of the regionals may stick too.

Ultimately ESPN wants coverage everywhere they can get it, and WEEI want's the co-branding of having the Schefter/Gammons/etc of the world on their airwaves weekly.

You probably will still be able to hear him on 103.7 in RI. There's already a full time ESPN radio affiliate in RI, the tiny 1450 WLKW, so I assume that 103.7 will not be running the ESPN shows. When talking about it this afternoon, they specifically were saying "AM 850."
 
Has JT been on lately anyway with Fox moving his show later?

Wouldn't he not even be on here til 1am-2am ish? His show used to start at 10pm eastern and EEI would pick it up at 11 usually.

But this summer Fox demoted him a shift.

Anyway, it's not a big loss. I don't know the overnight guy but most of the ESPN Radio jocks are much better than the Fox Radio jocks.

I'm assuming they will. That's why I thought 1450 might have to go even though they program ESPN 24/7. I don't know how well EEI-FM comes into New Bedford in the early AM.

I would imagine Hall Communications would have something to say about that. After all...they're the owners of 1450 WLKW and 1340 WNBH. Besides...finding programming to suit the needs of 1000 watt graveyard stations is not the easiest thing these days.

As for the 103.7 signal...I'm sure it would be more than adequate in New Bedford.
 
Will ESPN Radio be on across the "WEEI Sports Radio Network"? 93.7 FM is coming to be part of WEEI Sports radio network. After this Sox season is over , can see 93.7 FM as the primary station for Sox, Celtics,BC Football and basketball , Revoultion soccer; with 850AM as back up for conflicts. No more sports on 680AM.
 
If the Sox should, heaven forbid, not make it past the first or second rounds, some ALCS, NLCS, and World Series could be on 850. As I've said before I'd love to have Sox games at least on 93.7 which comes in great at my
workplace. Maybe by next year.

WEEI has been carrying JT, 1-4 am (checked, on a few minutes ago) but he'll be gone it looks like. The press
release said Jason Smith 1-5 am

I don't know why yesterday's games didn't air but it will be tough to find time at least for now to air the non-Sox ones, esp. on days when Sox play. 2:30 pm today, Rockies-Phillies--nope, they'll run Big Show. If there were to be a Yankees-Twins game at 6 pm (there isn't, just as a for example), nope, Red Sox talk before the Sox-Angels game. (And what if Yanks game were to go extra innings? Would they cut out of it and go to Sox pregame?
Only possibility: "This game will continue on AM 680...now stay tuned for Red sox..."

And so on...but some ALCS, NLCS, or World Series games via ESPN might wind up there or maybe on WRKO

I think I read that a couple times the Sox playoffs conflict with Celtics pre-season and Celts bounce to RKO

As for "will ESPN air across the WEEI network":
103.7 Westerly RI: Maybe--pull affiliation away from stations around there
96.3 Cape Cod: Maybe (no ESPN on Cape Cod now)
105.5 Western MA: trying to remember if ESPN is on there (well, the 1410 in Hartford has it)...same deal
etc

As has been suggested if WEEI moves to FM you could have ESPN full time on 850; and overnights,
the FM operation could run the cult fave JT the Brick from Fox Sports instead.
 
Due to conflict w/ Sox playoff, Fri night Celtics game is on WRKO (7:25). They also have a Sunday afternoon game of the Green Team (this via the schedule at WRKO.com)

Does anyone else besides me wonder whether, notwithstanding that WGBH
has publicly announced that is is acquiring WCRB and has filed an
application for transfer of control of WCRB, that Entercom might still
be working behind the scenes to pull off some kind of deal to acquire
99.5? Here is a possible scenario (fasten your seat belts): WEEI moves
to 93.7; 99.5 downgrades to B1, moves to the WRKO site in Burlington,
and becomes WMKK; Entercom donates WKAF to WGBH; 97.7 becomes WCRB;
ESPN moves full-time to 850; 890/1400 returns to the air as ESPN
Deportes.

Remember, Entercom bought 97.7 for a ridiculous price--$30
million--back before station prices collapsed. If Entercom has not
written down the asset, and they donate WKAF to WGBH, they might be
able to get credit for a $30-million charitable contribution. The tax
effect of that contribution might enable Entercom to acquire 99.5 from
WGBH for very close to 'GBH's $14 million cost of acquiring
WCRB--without Entercom's having to dig into its very depleted cash
reserves. A crazy scenario? You bet! A likely scenario? Nope. A
possible scenario? I think so. (I'll be in the lobby after the show to
accept nominations for the Joseph Gallant Memorial Award.)

Technically it would leave WCRB on the Class A 97.7 signal, albeit
from a site closer to Boston than Wood Hill--a site that happens to be
owned by WCRB's new parent, thus reducing WCRB's operating costs. And
107.3 would be back to being on only the quasi-rimshot 107.3. Well,
Entercom can't have _everything_ can they?

Additional thought: Would an on-channel booster on 107.3 atop one
of the tall buildings downtown be a workable way for
Entercom to replace 97.7? Can anybody shed some light on whether such
a booster could a) conform to FCC rules and b) improve the 107.3
signal in Boston proper without causing signal problems elsewhere in
the metro (out over Mass Bay wouldn't matter)? My understanding is
that on-channel boosters must not extend the primary station's
theoretical 60-dBu contour. Is that correct?
 
Anything could happen but I wonder if it would be worth putting ESPN Deportes on 890/1400; if reg ESPN didn't work there why would the Spanish version do so, unless the Spanish speaking population really is into sports and would appreciate a national perspective service in that language. Who knows, could happen. I do know that the Red Sox like many teams do feature their broadcasts in Spanish

The link isn't working for me but the only station that is licensed to Webster is WGFP-AM "Cool Country 940". I don't believe they are carrying the Red Sox in Spanish. Of course, their website hasn't been updated for a long time to check this but I still would find it hard to believe that they are part of the Spanish Red Sox network.

I do recall that when WNEB-AM 1230 in Worcester flipped to Spanish, they announced that they would be carrying the Red Sox in Spanish.
