WEEI - Fewer Commercial Breaks ?

So, what is the deal with the quick commercial breaks on WEEI this week. Especially on the Big Show. I've noticed that they are starting on time lately, and taking fewer commercial breaks.

Wolfe said 'LOL' in an e-mail response to a question about whether WEEI was 'running scared' on the whole WBZ-FM thing. I'd take him at his word; sharp guy, that (roll eyes).

What will this mean for the WEEI Sports Radio Network stations? Less commercial time and less profit for them.

Fewer commercials = less billing = less income for the station = less money to pay over payed "talent".

But, over payed "talent" is under contract so expenses are fixed so billing level (and commercials) must remain high.

So, look for fewer commercials to be a thing of the past shortly.

Caught about 5min's of evening drive and Big-O was chiding the blogs that cite his long breaks and hourly starts, which were usually about 20m late. He didn't mention why if things were cool, he was changing?

There seems to be more breaks but... they're much shorter than the long breaks that they've become known for in the past few years.

the way it seemed to work with the Big Show was they'd have two breaks an hour... a really long one at the top of the hour, usually coming back on at :17-20 after the hour and then usually a shorter one in the middle of the second half hour. That seemed to be my perception.

What's interesting is a comment I read by K. Vahey on boston-radio-interest list; he was talking to some Sox people who said Entercom was late with their Sox rights payment this yr and the team might be able to walk away from
them (IF so, Sox linking w/ CBS for WBZ-FM or WBZ (AM)? Who knows.)

What about advertisers and affiliates? Could they have had enough of the 15 min breaks during which nobody listens? Is is a sign the Big Show will be simulcasted?

Another thing. Somebody once posted that Glenn was always on the air at :00, :15, :30, :45 because of arbitron diaries. Is that accurate? With the PPM he wouldn't have reason to do it anymore.

Are there fewer commercials or more breaks with the same amount of commercials? I can't see them turning down revenue.

I like the new format. I think the shows seem to move at a faster pace. I sense that they're not leaving the real moron callers on for long. Some of these callers want to get on and make a speech. Danny from Quincy isn't going to like this one bit.

At one time I owned a hardware store and some of my meager advertising budget went toward radio ads. I didn't like it when my ad was stuck in a huge block of ads. The bigger the block the worse I liked it. I assumed that after about 4 or 5 minutes the audience was gone or had zoned out and weren't paying attention. If my ad was in the 10th minute, who heard it?
