Re: WEEI-FM and WXLM 102.3 both RED SOX affiliates.
Technically there is no conflict, but in reality 102.3 is just duplicating WEEI-FM's coverage. The northern and western portions of New London County get 103.7 in much better than 102.3. That doesn't even account for the existing WEEI-FM listeners in the immediate Groton/New London area who will probably stick with 103.7 for the games. It's very possible that WEEI-FM could get better ratings during Red Sox dayparts than 102.3 in New London County. That's embarassing. However, the network is happy since they have another affiliate, and Citadel is happy because they can sell airtime for the Sox in an area that 103.7 is not really interested in soliciting business. I can't see it working well for local advertisers of 102.3's coverage since a lot of the market will most likely be tuned into 103.7, not 102.3. I think the interesting thing to see is if WEEI-FM pulls a few Sox numbers away from WTIC in the eastern and southeast corners of the Hartford market.
