Anybody know what is happening on 93.7. There is some message repeating since 5:00 pm about the 'xds test channel for ESPN audio in Bristol.' It then gives some information about a satellite and receiver along with playing a tone in the left and right channel. (I don't hear anything when the right channel plays.)

Sounds like a live event (off the satellite) just ended and there's no one at the station manning the board to switch back to local programming. Probably someone there, but in the bathroom or out of the studio goofing off. I heard nearly an hour of announcements meant for board ops' ears only once on WHYN Springfield when a weekend Red Sox spring training game was rained out. Skeleton crew on duty, nobody around to switch away from the looping announcement.

The ND game ended and there were some ESPN highlights from the Michigan game. I assume that at 5:00 it was supposed to switch to the Rose Bowl, another ESPN Radio game. About six minutes in there was some play by play audio for a few seconds, but the message about the satellite returned for another 6 minutes or so.

Well, well, well; if this is how Entercom operates its Beantown pride and joy WEEI-FM, then it's perfectly understandable how/why 'RKO gets the (in)attention paid to its everyday operations by management.

I remember once calling the WXKS-FM studios to tell them their transmitter on the Pru was cycling on and off every couple minutes (the VU meter on my receiver was going back and forth from 0 to 100) for several hours. They had no idea and thanked me profusely :)

I remember when we had to tell the evening cleaning crew at 99 Revere Beach Parkway not to turn the transmitter digital dial from 1430AM to another station. This happened on more than one occasion.

John,

The observations offered by you and aerie make it understandable why those of us who all knew and loved good radio are turning away from the medium.

I'd love to be able to listen to terrrestrial AM and FM at home and in my car, but other than 'RKO during the week (and WBZ 1030 in early morning), there's not much to go on. On weekends, I lock onto Scott Shannon's True Oldies Channel via iHeart, but that does me no good in my car, since I don't own a smart phone. (Why is no one around here putting that service on air?) I gave up on FM in/around Boston in early 2013 after 103.3 WODS and 96.9 WTKK altered their programming for the worst.
