WEEI off again overnight

About 12:50 am today (Aug 10) WEEI abruptly went off air (right during JT the Brick's "Yankee rant", in which he called to task Yankee fans who were deserting their club at a time when the Sox are getting late-inning victories, etc.).
Suddenly the signal went off (is Butch from the Cape haunting the transmitter?
Are they doing maintenance, again?) Still off as of 3 am. WHAS 840 Louisville
coming in (George Noory) and the French signal from Toronto on 860 is very clear.
850? Can't really hear anything--some talk faintly. (Let's see, that freq
has Real Oldies from Conn.; WEEU from Johnstown PA; WKNR sports from Cleveland...)<P ID="signature">______________

Is this really a bad thing that JT the -rick went off the air? LOL

WEEU is on 830 and is licensed to Reading PA. They run 20 kW daytime, 6 kW at night.

Maybe :) but actually it was fun to hear him complaining about the Yankee fans that didn't care, and how bad the team was doing--and just when he gets going
the engineer decides to do maintenance, or some kind of xmtr equipment blew,
etc :) Maybe the 'EEI listeners who WERE up wound up checking out "the FAN"
out of NY, or ESPN, or Sporting News...

DXing 850...

WEEU used to be on 850. WNTJ-Johnstown, Pa, is 850. Other stations on 850 possibly receivable around Boston, besides Connecticut, include WTAR-Norfolk, Va, WRBZ-Raleigh, NC, and of course KOA, Denver...

Perhaps they were installing IBOC

Correct. WNTJ is on 850 in Johnstown, with 10 kW out of NINE towers! Very tight pattern protecting Boston and Cleveland.

Re: DXing 850...

WREF in Danbury, CT (licensed to Ridgefield) is a 2500 watt daytime only station.

I've heard that they run some very low power at night, though I haven't been in the area to check.
