WEEI Playoffs

I tell myself a few times a year, I'll never listen to WEEI again. For the most part I don't listen to WEEI anymore, but sometimes when things like this playoff run are going on I want to tune in. As soon as I do, I remember why I tune out. Last night after the Sox win the game in the bottom of the 9th, and clinch the ALDS, callers called the post game show and STILL COMPLAINED! I heard one yahoo say that Varitek should have thrown the ball to Youk, and the host agreed. Did Varitek not tag the runner out? How can you complain? When you're a kid they teach you the best run down has no throws, Vairtek did his job. Then there was another caller who said something stupid, and to be honest at that point I was so tired I forget what it was, I just remember flipping on XM to get ready to listen to AM Coast to Coast. The callers are for the most part, losers who don't know what they're talking about, and the hosts are all hot heads that think they're the story (except for Dale and Holley). I'm sure I'll listen again after something big goes down, but WEEI jumped the shark a long time ago.

How entertaining would it be if everyone just called and said "I'm happy they won"? The emotion that's on display, starting with the callers, is what makes talk radio good. For as much as you hate it, that's what makes WEEI so successful.

If after they won, I would think everyone would be happy. The emotion sounds like it is fueled by Budweiser. Good talk radio is intellegent discussion, not some yahoo trying to knit pick about a run down that worked out in the Red Sox favor.

I'll never forget the morning after the Sox won the 2004 ALCS. Quite possibly the greatest victory in team history (at least thats what Castiglione called it), the biggest comeback in baseball history, first World Series appearance in 18 years... and D&C spend the morning bitching and moaning about Francona bringing Pedro into the game. -_-

what can they do to make things better to make (YOU) listen more. Please tell us some of your ideas. I'm sure someone from there might see your ideas and think about it. Thank you for your time

Good talk radio is meant to evoke emotion in the listener, regardless of it being "intelligent" conversation or not. In this case, said "yahoo" is a P1 - the driving force behind their ratings. As for the "yahoo's" actions/statements, that represents a good portion of the Boston sports fan-base (which, it seems, your beef is actually with)...hence WEEI has not jumped the shark, they merely play to the demo. What do you want them to do, alienate their P1's?

I have my own issue with some sports fans in this town (the effin' Pink Hats), but I deal with them. I also know that I am going to hear my fair share of them on WEEI, too.
