WEEI question

how late did D&C run over because it was 10:25 until Dale and Holley started. I kept switching back and forth. I'd think that long a break would cost them listeners. Or maybe theyr'e trying to get as many commercials out of the way because of all the Pats' guests today.

The Tom Brady interview was late. They ran until about ten past. Did you notice that they do nothing but take cheap shots at people in the Pats' organization until Brady comes on and then they turn into Barbara Walters?

ah... thanks...I don't listen to D&C so I had no idea.

It is very common for them to run 16 minutes at break times, that kind of stuff drives me nuts. I wish people would just flat out boycott it until they get back to 5 minute breaks like they used to have. Compare it to the FAN in NY and EEI looks like a joke. They are all about how much crap they can stuff into the listeners ears.

you know what else is interesting... at the top, they'll go to break, do commercials, come back, do the flash, more recorded commercials, then Big O will have a recording of him reading ad copy, back to recorded ads and finally the "top" of the hour where they repeat the same two minutes of "whines" they have every hour--thus creating the illusion that you're getting some live programming instead of 15-20 minutes of ads/flash

this is why I like having more than one sports station. ESPN is on at 3 after and, when they go to break at :15, WEEI is back--sometimes.

D&C get more and more annoying every time I hear them. I hate driving to work the day after a big night, or weekend of sports and listening to those guys. Even after a Red Sox world series win, yes Joe I can believe it, and the Pats going 9-0, they still can't keep me entertained. I put them on for 2 minutes, they bore me with their S^^T don't stink attitude, and I find myself listening to the MLB station on XM, or WFAN in New York when the signal fades in. My last penny in my two cents is this, THE TOM BRADY INTERVIEW SUCKS! He sounds like he doesn't want to be there, and that he hasn't even rubbed the crust out of his eyes, and the questions they ask are something one of the pigs from the inside track would ask. Compare that to the interviews Dale and Holley get in the mid day when the players are awake, and kind of playful with the hosts. When is Imus back on the air?

i often scratch my head and try to figure out why weei is so successful.

ive come to the conclusion that a lot of men arent interested in listening to anything that is 1. actually good and 2. offers differing opinions. so they tune in to weei.

i absolutely hate them blowing up callers. for once can someone call in who doesnt have brady poo on their nose...or maybe doesnt agree that the 2007 red sox were the greatest baseball team ever? i know they have a few annoying yankees fans call in from time to time, but those are plants.

I agree, they have always been first class jerks......especially Callahan, but lately they've turned into the "Hey look at us" show; four hours of sarcastic cheap shots just to get attention. I can't tell what's real and what's a smart ass remark anymore. For instance yesterday they mentioned the sound system "scandal" In Indianopolis. I thought it was just another sarcastic remark, later it's all over the news.

They spend a lot of time ridiculing Imus and professing not to be concerned with his return. This leads me to believe that they are quite concerned. Personally, I can't wait. Out here in Worcester county, we don't have a great selection. The reception on 680 and 890 is very poor. If I could get 890, I wouldn't ever listen to D&C on 1440.

Because the guys of D&C and the Big Show are the pied pipers of sports in this city and most of the population are the mice. I often hear analysis from some of my co-workers that I heard while tuning in briefly to hear the train wreck of these two shows, which goes to show that I'm not of the opinion that this city is fully knowledgeable in sports. They're only knowledgeable about the gossip of their teams, and tend to spread the words of these hosts. The only show that I can tolerate is Dale and Holly, but for the most part I keep the dial on ESPN. I'll give it to eei though, their tactics work because it doesn't take much to please their faithful listeners.

all three of the daytime shows do that nonsense... sometimes the callers deserve it but sometimes not. And I'm sure there are more planted callers than the Yankees ones.

ESPN has Peter Gammons... WEEI doesn't anymore. WEEI's loss. I just heard him ESPN and it's always a pleasure to hear him.

It's successful because they're funny and good to listen to. Those who want real sports opinion
are welcome to go to WAMG 890 or WWZN 1510, both of which are really doing well in the
ratings eh :)

Entertainment value is key. This is why Rush Limbaugh is a zillionaire, not playing records as "Jeff
Christie" anymore.

what exactly is entertaining about the 'eei lineup?

take the big show for example...im not entertained. after listening, i feel like im 15 years younger and my iq has dropped 50 points.

are you really entertained by pete sheppard slobbering about brady? you find fred smerlas entertaining? oh yeah, the 'devil patrick' line is soo....what is the word...mature? classy?

dont get me started. ill get carried away.

All this really begs the question...why do you listen? If you are not entertained and you dislike the programming (the hosts, their opinions, their tactics), why do you continue to listen? So you have something to complain about? Well then they're doing their job and will be allowed to continue into the future. They just want you to listen, they don't care why you do it.

Personally, I don't like Rush. Don't like his politics, his sense of humor...on the odd occasions where I've caught a bit of his show, I was not impressed or entertained. You know what I do about it? Turn the dial. I don't listen to Rush, and wouldn't you know...my life has actually gone on without him. Maybe yours can too.

I think that disappearing into a fog of 15 minutes worth of commercials (or whatever length) is a dangerous strategy for WEEI. I understand that it's this or a break every five or ten minutes, but with these long breaks you give the listener ample time to switch to something else and not return to WEEI.

ESPN has a neat section on their web site (called their 'PodCenter') where you can download MP3s directly or via iTunes of Mike & Mike and other great sports content from that day...sans commercials. Since ESPN Radio is not well served in the Boston area (i.e. low-powered stations), these podcasts (which last about 35 minutes each) are excellent and I enjoy them very much. In fact, I haven't listened to D&C since their return and I don't miss them a bit. These days, ESPN Radio is talking up Boston sports so much that they are really putting D&C to shame. There's a ton of good, free content in the way of daily Podcasts. I just load up my iPod at night for the next day's commute and for use while I'm at the health club. The radio stations all know that they're losing out to iPod listeners (in the same way that newspapers are losing out to Internet surfers). In both cases, there isn't a bloody thing the radio stations and newspapers can do except create excuses for why it's happening.
