WEEI... second string already...

The Big O did his last show for the rest of the year yesterday. Kind of early, eh? Sheppard is in the host's chair and I imagine he'll be on vacation soon as well... as will the rest of the hosts. Time to empty the bench! The LJ onslaught on its way...

BigO is almost up there with Letterman's vacation package.
I remenber when WBZ was working Brudnoy,Meade, and Raleigh 6 days a week plus holidays, with 3 weeks vacation. I think Danny and LeVellie do quite a bit better than that now.

I know it's funny to rag on the Big O for his time off, but I thought about recently, doesn't he take 2 weeks in the summer and 2 in the winter? I think that's it (could be wrong) but if so, that's four weeks vaca....typical for any employee who's been at a company for a long time...so what really is the big deal?

I'll put on WEEI between 6 and 10 at that point... well, unless I hear Larry's voice. Then I might not...

I couldn't agree more, The second I hear Larry Johnson's voice, I change stations. I've been listening to Imus since he's come back on the air. It sound's like he'll be taking a Christmas break. I'm kind of surprised at that. You'd think that he'd use this as an opportunity to get some audience back. He certainly had enough time off.

Larry Johnson and Butch Stearns are the Beavis & Butthead of sports media whores. My Christmas wish is that they come to these message boards and read that about themselves. How these people get, and then keep, their jobs speaks volumes about this incredibly incestuous industry where radio, TV, and newspaper people feel they have a divine right to trample on each other's gardens. And trample they do.

I turned on D&C after 9:00 this AM. The good news was that the pompous ass, the smart mouthed punk, and the sleazy weasel were all off. The bad news was that Bob Halloren(aka Motormouth) was. He may be worse than Larry Johnson, as hard as that is to believe. He was schleping a book that he supposedly wrote. This moron wrote a book?

I listened... he wasn't THAT bad... anything better than D&C and that means WEEI is an option for the next week and a half in the morning...

i agree.

look. im no lefty. i never voted for clinton (or gore or kerry). but i am fair...something d&c obviously arent. they are hacks. if youre going to be a hack, at least be clever and humorous...they arent even that!

BearFur, I'm going to guess, but from my years of listening to EEI I'll say he is closer to 10 weeks off!! He is gone just about the month of August and I think he is in and out during July as well. On another note...D&C sure were sports this December, usually they too are long gone before mid month. I'm guessing that contract thing kept them around a few extra days this year. Callahan even went all the way until this Wednesday.

What amuses me the most is that at least Big O lets Pete take the wheel (hosting I mean), where as Meterpunkal still can't get the fill in time slot.

I've never kept count, but it does seem like Ordway takes a lot more than 4 weeks, but I could be wrong. As much of a bufoon as he is, Sheppard doesn't do a bad job substituting for Ordway. He keeps the show moving and gets rid of the really moronic callers quickly.

Can you imagine Meterparel hosting a show? He seems to be universally despised. He must have something on someone to keep his job. Especially the BC football gig; God, is he awful.

i think sheppard did a pretty good job this week. he only did one thing that really irked me...he said that mitchell took a leave of absence from the senate to do the report. uh. no. mitchell is a *retired* senator.

i dont mind butch. he isnt bad.

Butch is listenable now, I think he may have changed his "demeanor" after Curt in the car gave him a call :)

Butch is fine... Pete is a fumblemouth and not too scintillating--I was hoping Smerlas was going to be vacation too but no such luck so I turned it off the minute I heard his voice yesterday. I remember last year they were doing the whole "Merry christmas" routine--where they'd get irritated when people would say "happy holidays"

by the way, Happy Solstice!!!

Butch is excellent. It will be a pleasure to have him on instead of Dennis & Callahan. It was great Saturday listening having a real pro on instead of high school interns.

Are you sure they didn't use up all the vaca time on the beach?
