WEEI sis station to debut Oct 26

Didn't I hear that WEEI is also looking at a signal up in Maine? They really are becoming an all-New England sports station.

I'm not sure that's such a good thing for local radio in the areas where 'EEI is blossoming, even if it is a "local" station syndicating its signal.

It's Finally Coming. I live in Western Mass and we will finally have a station that will talk local sports during the day. I would expect that the Redsox and Celtics will be transfered to the station. We have a sports station WNNZ that runs Fox Sports Radio. I wonder if WVEI-fm will run the fox sports as they do from midnight to 6am or maybe they'll pick up espn or sporting news radio. The only thing I would be concerned with is its only 720 watts so it will be interesting to see how far north and south the signal is.

I guess I can forget about it here in Meriden. Even at higher power, they'd still have to protect WHCN at 105.9, right?

A newspaper article said awhile back that Jason Wolfe of WEEI was looking to simulcast them on stations
in NH and ME...(maybe VT too?)

Not sure what coverage of the new 105.5 will do--no page on it at radio-locator.com at the moment

The Red Sox are moving to WRKO next season, so they wouldn't be on the 100% simulcast feed on WVEI-FM. I'd imagine their Springfield affiliate will continue to be WHYN(AM).

Some Sox games (Fri nights? 1 pm afternoon getaway days) will be on WEEI, it was said.

Interestingly enough, a WHYN listener called Howie and said she was tired of Howie getting pre-empted by the
Sox on 560. Howie: "You won't have that problem next year". Hmm...is HC hinting that the Sox are
moving to WVEI-FM from WHYN? (or does he mean his show is also on WCRN in Worcester--not sure if
that reaches Springfield area well)...

I would think whyn would lose the rights to the red sox as when eei went on in providence. Big difference for whyn is that they do not have the contract for next year as wpro did. Wnnz the other sports station carried all the celtics and BC stuff. They don't starting this year. I would expect that wvei-fm is. Like I said before though 720 watts. Basically from East Winsdor, CT North to Deerfield. The only thing it has going for it is transmitter site, it's on Mt.Tom so that should help. At least I won't have listen online starting on Thursday.

That's 720 watts ERP, but the elevation on Mt. Tom will give them the equivalent of at least a couple of thousand watts coverage.

Time for more jobs loss . :( Thanks Cheapercom !

I don't believe any jobs are being lost in the launch of the new 105.5. Pittsfield's WUPE 95.9/100.1 is now exclusively on 100.1, and 105.5 WBEC-FM moved to 95.9. At the least, isn't Entercom creating a few positions in Springfield itself? They hired a station manager a few months ago.

...and as usual, you don't know what you're talking about. The owners of the station (not yet Entercom) took 105.5 silent back in April, and by moving the programming to another frequency actually saved jobs. Meanwhile, Entercom has, from what I've heard, hired a station manager and some sales people.

Get your facts straight next time.

Boston Radio Watch confirms the Oct 26 start up date and says it'll go on at 6 am that day. Also it mentions
WEEI is number one among men (gives the 25-54 numbers...huge!). BRW: "WEEI is ranked #1 in the following demos: M18-49, M25-34, M 25-49, M35-44, M35-54"

the latest promo WEEI is running says that WVEI-FM debuts today (Thu/26) at _2 pm_...

Oh, and I'm sure Entercom would appreciate it if a ratings diary were sent to certain people on this board who constantly post about the WRKO talk hosts (as in, criticize them). You hate the shows so much that you just...don't... miss them ! If these folks were counted, the ratings would soar! :)

I'm sure EEI's GM goes to sleep every night thinking "Why? Why isn't EEI a Class A? WFAN is! No fair!"

Since EEI gets better ratings than FAN, I'm sure you're wrong.

Dr. Suess books are being read out aloud right on the station until 2pm. Not a great way to attract listeners. But did find out through eei website that Redsox will be on that station in 2007 along with celtics and boston college basketball. Seems that there gearing up to be top 5 in springfield book by the summer. The redsox are the key.

Hi Jonathan:
Springfield was the home of noted author and artist Dr. Theodor Seuss Geisel (better known to you and me as Dr. Seuss). The new WVEI-FM is targeting to the Springfield/Pioneer Valley area. I guess the idea is to show that while WVEI-FM is going to be very much connected to the WEEI Network of Stations, there will be a local element involved with the new station. This is the first full-powered start-up Springfield FM station in many years (even though it was originally a Pittsfield station). The idea is to get some quick notice. After all, where would you find a station that was running Dr. Seuss material (other than a radio reading service)? Hope they read "Green Eggs And Ham"!

I've visited Springfield recently--went to the museums in the Quadrangle (history, science, and the Dr.
Seuss statuary garden--the last is free). Home of Milton Bradley, Smith and Wesson, Dr. Seuss, etc.
I also visited the new Basketball Hall of Fame (not the biggest roundball fan but at least i enjoyed the
stuff on the Globetrotters, origins of the game, etc.--it's actually part of a mini-mall with restaurants).
And I ate at a BBQ place I've enjoyed before, Theodore's on Worthington St.

Dr. Seuss actually did anti-Hitler/anti-fascism cartoons in the early 40s for a newspaper called PM. I bought a book called Dr. Seuss goes to War while at the history museum. Typical cartoon--one with an anti-racism
message--portrayed a "factory owner" playing a piano, and "Uncle Sam" tells him, "Listen, maestro, if you want REAL harmony, use the black keys as well as the white!" The black keys were cobwebbed, to suggest
they weren't being used...

Many others:

on the WEEI site it now says: "Be listening at 2pm today as Springfield joins the WEEI Famliy!
More info..." but as of 12:15 p when you click the More Info link you just wind up with the main page again.

The 2 pm launch is mentioned on Boston Radio Watch, though:
>> It will simulcast all of WEEI 850 AM’s programming, including Red Sox Baseball beginning in 2007 and Patriots Monday

Well technically 'RKO is the Sox flagship though certainly some games (Fri nights? weekday afternoons) are sched to be on 'EEI. WEEI carried Celts last night so 'RKO could do post-debate talk.
