Just a quick question...with WEEI #1 in the 12+ Spring Book and their current #1 trend, it got womdering. Is this the first time in the country that a Sports station has been the overall #1 station for a market. It would make sense with Boston's ravenous sports appetite...but I know would make people in other parts of the country, where sports is a hard sell, scratch their heads...just a thought...

I think it is. WEEI does say they're the highest rated sports station in
the country--even higher numbers than WFAN, but of course markets like
NYC have more stations= more fragmentation (smaller pieces of the pie
due to even more competition)
______________

And even though WEEI is higher rated in terms of share percentage, the much lower share WFAN achieved in the latest book still puts them more than 100,000 listeners over WEEI.

As good as the EEI shows may be, the Red Sox carry the station to ratings dominence. They have the attention (even if only casually,in some cases)) of the market for almost 7 months a year. They are more than a sports team, like the Bruins/Celtics of even the champion NEPatriots are. They are a daily soap opera that has everyone's attention. If they were to flip to another station in '07 I think the WEEI ship might develope a few leaks.

It sure doesn't hurt having two world championship teams that Boston fans waited literally a lifetime to see become champs. Sure wish I could get WEEI down here in the steamy south...

Who else would be a candidate for the Red Sox in '07?

The Big Show is #1 in it's demo...I think they do a good job on their own!

They are streaming again, so you could listen that way, if you wanted to.

What helps EEI is that Boston has a team in all four major leagues. Los Angeles, for example doesn't have an NFL franchise. Until this year, Washington didn't have MLB. San Francisco and Seattle don't have the NHL.

On the flip side, two of the most popular sports in the country - College football and NASCAR have very little traction in Boston.
