Agreed. I certainly don't have an inside track on WCRB, and classical music isn't one of my strong suits, but if I were running WCRB, I'd have done the same thing that they did; the idea is to get high enough ratings to keep the format viable, not to see how many times you can play the complete Ring Cycle to an audience of a dozen hard-core aficionadoes (who already have their preferred versions on vinyl and CD.) I listen to WCRB myself on occasion, and find their announcers fine, but it is the playlist which sold the format and saved the station, ratings-wise.

The sorry state of the classical recording industry isn't WCRB's, or any radio station's, fault.
