WEEI wins Marconi award...

...for sports station of the year. Meanwhile next door Howie says the RKO equipment was personally made by Marconi.

>>WEEI Sports Radio received a prestigious Marconi Award for Sports Station of the Year on Thursday night at the National Association of Broadcasters Marconi Radio Awards dinner and show in Dallas. (WEEI facebook)

If you read some other message boards, you'd think that WEEI was dead and buried and that nobody listens to them anymore. Reminds me of the liberal writer, Susan Sontag, who couldn't believe that Nixon won in a landslide in 1972 because no one she knew voted for him.

I do have to wonder a little though. Did anyone from the Marconi's listen to Muttnansky?

They jokingly suggested "Oil Can Boyd and Lou Merloni in Middays"... (where would Mut go?
"Oh, he'll co-host with you," they told Mikey Adams : ))

Since my oldies station was stolen from me, I've tried to listen from time to time, but Muttnansky is just awful. He tries to be funny and he just can't pull it off. He sometimes tries to imply that he's in the know, but everyone knows he's a 30 year old geek trying to fake it.

That quote about Nixon (which borders on the apocryphal) is usually attributed to longtime New Yorker film critic Pauline Kael. Returning to the subject at hand, the Sports Hub wasn't even nominated.

Gosh, I'm stunned.

The Marconi people must have missed all the hard-hitting sports journalism when the Sportshub were interviewing drunk Sox fans after games,
or doing rap competitions amongst the radio hosts.

By the way, I tuned into the Sportshub on the way to work when Pete Sheppard was in a commercial break.

Wow. I know weekend radio is kinda of the "AAA" league, but these guys were pathetic!

As Chad Finn noted on Friday:

"98.5 The Sports Hub won the award last year. Stations and personalities who won a 2011 Marconi could not be nominated in the same category again until 2013."

1) Never heard of her.
2) How was it apocryphal? Do you think that nobody really voted for him? Or, do you know what the word means?
3) I never mentioned the Sports Hub.
