Weekend traffic reports on Sunny

Caught one around 2 this afternoon and couldn't help but wonder how these have survived the never-ending CC budget cuts. Is there some reason I'm not thinking of to hang onto them?

Since CC owns Total Traffic, it's easy to do. I was there in January and visited with both Michael Berry and Brian Erikson and saw how the operation works. It's small yet efficient. I talk to Kelly while I was there and observed how she juggled the stations where she did the traffic reports. They have it down to a science. It works for them.

It is down to a science, as Chuck said.

CC's TTN -- Total Traffic Network -- records one generic traffic update that us automatically downloaded into any station's playlist.

You'll notice that if you flip around CC's stations, you'll hear the exact same traffic report -- with the exception of KTRH, who carries all traffic reports live.

I think the 4th largest city in the nation is served well by having traffic reports on the weekends. It doesn't take long for something to jam up on the roadways on the weekends as well as weekdays.

I guarantee the ONLY reason they air weekend traffic reports is for the additional sponsorship billboards... why only make money off of traffic reports M-F when you can do them 7 days a week! ;D

Radio IS in business to make money and therefore, if you can get a traffic sponsorship on the weekend, then do it! Obviously, they have sponsors. They also feed other non-CC stations with their reports. Again, the 4th largest city should be able to get sponsors for weekend traffic reports. They have a sales team there which has a presentation to back up their claims of the amount of reach they have with their reports.

By the way, KNTH does not have a relationship with Total Traffic, as it already has an established contract with Traffic dot com.

Weekend / extended-hour traffic info collection may be also be justified by 1) other, non-broadcast customers for that traffic information [more than one might think] and 2) Houston acting as a low/no-cost hub for other markets during non-peak hours.
