Weekly Trends For Russ Martin Show on KEGL

What goes around ... comes around.

I will give five stone-cold lead-pipe locks about the future of Russ and his show:

1. Russ will never catch the Musers.

2. Russ will always beat the Fan.

3. Russ haters will gloat about #1.

4. Russ fans will gloat about #2.

5. This board will continue to be dominated by the groups mentioned in 3&4 even though both sides are equally juvenile and ridiculous.

I think it would be great if a publication would print the weeklies every week. Then everyone could see how whacked the system is. Those numbers were adults. It very well could have been two female meters listening that went away in 3 weeks and he could still be killing it with men - or the other way around. Or the panel changed or a couple meters went on vacation or someone was ON vacation and had the time to listen the first week....or listening is down.

PPM is all over the road. You could take any good performing station in the market and watch each demo and daypart go stupid from one month to the next.

it is interesting to me how the uninformed become experts on issues through osmosis. Ratings apologists used to bash the diary when their favourite host went down, they would say silly things like, "oh, someone must have gone on vacation" or "The banker was too busy to remember to fill out the diary". But with the PPM, it doesn't work that way. Call it out for under sampling, I am right there with you. But, it is not a case of forgetting, in this case, logic and history cane be your guide. No more over listenership by the guy selling porn in Garland saying he listened to Russ for 4 hours a day when he was really hosing down one of the "theaters".

No, under sampled, yes, but not the cause. Russ's numbers are going down because he got his initial pop and people realise that he is the same, hack, one trick pony he always was.

He will continue going down until he finds the point where his old listeners can listen to him again, only now, they are fairly accurately measured.

The weeklies are specificly limited in distribution to stations. They are not even licensed to be shown to advertisers.

Then everyone could see how whacked the system is.

Weeklies have the same sample as a full book, and, while there will be statistical wobble as there is in everything that is not a full census, most variations are related to actual differences in programming which can be tracked to the day, daypart and quarter hour.

There are no "months" in PPM, only 4-week books. And they are not all over the road in huge markets like Dallas...

Since he is such a popular figure for this board, D has the first 3 weeks posted today...

I think a number of people are going to get nastygrams from Arbitron, starting with the station for releasing copyright material to the press...
