WEEM-FM Pendleton Status In Question

The South Madison Community School Corporation School Board voted 7-0 to eliminate WEEM-FM along with a variety of other programs in the school district Thursday Feb 11. They left it open to reconsider later after possible re-negotiations with the Classroom Teachers Association. Is this the first of many HS and College stations being cut due to the economy and tax revenues? I hope to keep my position here, but if you have something open...I am game.

shame there is no way to make a deal with Elwood Community, Alexandria Monroe, Frankton-Lapel and Anderson Community schools to make WEEM a county wide school run station. But then again getting ACS to chip in anything with the major budget whoas they got would be lucky at best. especially if the Madison County School alliance manages to Get Anderson Highland High, Killbuck and Valley Grove Elementary schools carved out of ACS (Killbuck is already doomed for closure by ACS under the consolidation plan with VG being one of the 5 K-3 Elementary Buildings and HHS being the new 7-9 Middle school under the ACS Plan for next Year)

It's a mess here. 25 years of artificially low property taxes and now the fake tax cap (that has bankrupt California) will go in to effect and basically make our schools stone and mortar...believe me, they have already turned down the heat 10 degrees! Maybe someone in a local school district would want to buy the frequency? It would be a great start to a convergence-media program! Let's try to keep the license educational in a traditional high school or college. Any help would be appreciated on leads to organizations (schools) that may be open to purchasing the license or, better yet, sharing the license. Ivy Tech seems natural.

hope someone can find a way to keep it on the air as is.

I just have a feeling if it is *sold* it will go to a bible banger outfit

Not for sale. Community is working on a plan to fund the station.
Glad to hear that...best wishes!

That's great news. I think community radio is an increasingly valuable thing. Sure you can dial up any jockless stream on the internet - but community and public radio has the localism and the diversity advantage combined.

Best wishes B-Guy I always liked WEEM,,, But I just am never far enough north to hear it.
