WEEU personality (present and past) questions

Have Andie Kerswig (sp?) (news in AM drive) and Steph Rollinson (traffic in both drive times) permanently replaced Len Carmen and Pat Daniels respectively? Sure sounds that way judging from what I have listened to on WEEU in the past month or so. Have Len and Pat retired? Voicewise, they sound venerable, as do Charlie Adams and Dave Langley who were on today. Is there a youth movement in key dayparts afoot at 4th and Court?

Also, while I attended what is now Kutztown U. in the early '80s, I remember hearing a WEEU news anchor named Cheryl Witnak (sp?). What's become of her?

i have noticed the same thing. len and pat disappeared almost the same time. weird. not that i was a big fan of either. in fact although len was good, pat was horrible with traffic. stumbling all over his words. it is weird how they both disappeared at the same time. i thought the same thing. sounds like management is trying to fade in younger voices to give the station more of a young less senior-ish sound. some other voices at 'eeu that have disappeared in recent years in addition to the ones you mentioned. bill saunders. matt anspach. john stolnis. jerry paul. there are others. i'm drawing a blank.

Jerry Paul was the best dj ever on WEEU! The best in the state!

Perhaps Carmen has gone into semiretirement. Apparently he is still in the fold. Last night at the top of The Sports Democracy, Paul Roberts informed us that Len was filling in for Matt "G-Man" Gorny as engineer.

Anyone sort out a final resolution on this? I had originally thought that both were taking vacation at the same time, but obviously, four months later, that isn't the case.

Ms. Rollinson has a wit about her...much more so than Pat Daniels did. Steph and Mitch Gearhart both have a clever streak to them.

John Stolnis is now producing the Jim Bohannon Show on Westwood One.

no kidding. i knew that guy was too good for WEEU. he sounded way too big-city for them. really good, young voice. i think he used to do fill in on WWDB in Philly when they were talk. good for him.

as for pat daniels, he's not gone like we thought he was ... it seems he just isn't doing traffic anymore. i've heard announcers reference pat daniels as their producer mainly on saturday morning when they do the marketplace. maybe they gave him behind-the-scenes work because he was so horrible on air. lol i agree, the new traffic reporter is much better.

Thanks, Todd. WEEU WAS quite an education! (Sometimes on how NOT to do radio, as well as how to do it.) I was there from 12/91-7/93. Got me through my junior and senior years at Holy Name High School. There were some very nice people working there, as there were some very mean people. Of course, every station is that way to a point. But, not much youth in the building at the time. I would say the next youngest to me was probably Lisa Alexander, who was about 8-10 years my senior.

I must thank former GM Dick Schilpp for taking a chance on a then 16 year old pup with VERY little experience under his belt. He was very kind to give me a shot. Also, huuuuuge kudos to Bill Brosey (then MD/evenings) who really took me under his wing and taught me the way things SHOULD be (whether the rest of the building agreed or not..."can't teach an old dog new tricks.") Bill was the ultimate Miyagi. What a great teacher! And, an all-around great person.

i still remember being at weeu......in the announce booth....and there was a sign beside the "board" where the engineer ran the broadcast .saying NO SUPREMES on weeu........

while at WRAW they dare not play james brown......

and at WRFY FM. when the franco family owned it...........the people of Reading awaited the next marty miller remote from the west reading motor inn.......

and at 1240/whum.....they listened ( yeah right) to the chiarelli bros top ten.........( well that was the plan)

ahhhhhh those were the halcyon days of reading radio..........

where jack gounder on weeu ( before he decided to be a funeral director) and frank mooney on whum were competing against paul davis and then JW.Wagner and then paul davis again.....on WRAW, broadcasting live from high atop the corner of 5th and court streets ( hey art lewis/gary brill/mark thiomas/scott wallace..you guys still around ?????) or WEEU on Penn Avenue before their move to their current location next to the "EAGLE TIMES"

and a great saturday night was listening to the live singing from the local pubs near the luden cough drop factory or ken matz on WRAW playing the hits......

and everybody knew their day was complete listening to jack holcomb on "the bird watching society" on WEEU...or "the night mayor" on WHUM.....( with no delay and his talking one way on air....did he really have phone calls...........????????????????? hmmmmmm a radio mystery.....

ahhhhhhh yes.....those were the halcyon days of R E A D I N G R A D I O........

IMO Kerswig's voice belongs in a "slightly" larger market, like maybe Wilmington, DE. (I'd like to hear her on WILM-1450). Rollinson's voice IMO is too small-townish, too high schoolish, for a city even the size of Reading. (OTOH I enjoyed Suzy Sands.) When it became apparent Kerswig and Rollinson were going to be regulars at 830 for the long run, I stopped listening to WEEU, and not just in morning drive.

I'm still waiting to learn the fate of Cheryl Witnak.

how about jerry paul (sp?) i remember him doing weekend nights back when they played music weekend nights. he'd play all these oddball b-side songs and had a weird sense of humor. a little annoying but definitely fun. what happened to him?

its sad to see all those music shows gone from WEEU except for charlie and sometimes in the afternoon after rush. i know it is AM radio but still. it's a shame.

Shirl (Not Cheryl) Whitnack was working downstairs in an OFF-air position during my stay at the (then) Nifty 850. I want to say she was in traffic/continuity, but it could have been a sales role. While I remember many inconsequential things, others have long since vanished from memory. Of course, I left WEEU 15 years ago. Who knows what Shirl is doing nowadays.

Jerry was a legend! People in Berks County still ask about his whereabouts. A lot of those old people do not want to hear syndicated talk. Jerry Paul was their lifeline. Old people across Berks County would sit around their tables drinking Ginger Ale, eating ring bologna and cheese, while listening to Jerry Paul.
