WEIB - Northampton 106.3

I love the smooth jazz and mellow music of this station that is played continuous all day with just brief DJ interruptions. There are very few commercials and those that are aired are low-keyed. I am not sure how this station can make money without significant ad-support, but I am not complaining. The 3,000 watt station can reach Hartford on the car radio and Northern Connecticut a good AM-FM portable radio. I love this station.

Smooth jazz is a breath of fresh air in a market dominated by AC, Hot AC, and Not AC. It's too bad 106.3 can't increase power to 6kW as 99.3 did years ago. (Both share the same stick in Hatfield.) That said, it would be better yet if WEIB could move to Mount Tom.

I know. It's signal barely reaches Hartford and that is only on a car radio, yet when they do their station break, they say WEIB, Northampton, Springfield, Hartford. You can not get this station in the Hartford area on a regular FM radio. A power boost or an antenna move to Mount Tom would increase their range

As a fan of Smooth Jazz, I'm glad they continue the format. There are only a few such stations left. I thought WEIB had moved to Smooth AC, mostly vocals, few instrumentals. But you say they still play a good percentage of instrumental jazz?

I wonder if those call letters work against them -- EIB is very familiar to anyone who's ever listened to Rush Limbaugh for any length of time; it stands for his "network": Excellence in Broadcasting. I can't receive the station where I am, but I've seen it mentioned here occasionally and actually assumed it was a right-wing talker until I checked out this thread!
