Weigel and Fox team-up for a new movie subchannel

With Fox Television making news, at least here on these boards, its television stations group and Weigel Broadcasting are launching a new subchannel network that will feature movies 24/7, and the channel will have the appropiate title "Movies!" The article below doesn't specify what library(ies) will be used; my personal guess would be 20th Century Fox, possibly featuring same collection already featured on Fox Movie Channel.

The channel is schedule to launch this spring on the DT2s of the Fox network O&Os.

a few markets (Minneapolis being one) it will be on DT3 as in some markets they (Fox) either cross promote the co-owned My or they have a SD counterpart on the DT2.

We've got room for Fox Movies down here in Mobile. As far as I can remember, our local Fox has never carried a sub channel. WALA is owned by Lin, I think. Has Lin been signing any national contracts with TV sub networks?

The Lin group has signed agreements with Bounce Tv and the cool TV. Lin Tv is slowly in the process of adding the cool TV to the stations they acquired from new vision. My question is that Weigel is involved will they package this outside of the FOX O &O group with either this TV and ME TV to increase coverage. Even though I think it is odd that Weigel would be involved with two different movie theme channels as it seems that the sub channel space is getting more crowded everyday.

Wonder if WMYT will pick it up when the Fox deal closes? WJZY already runs 3 sub channels in addition to the main Channel.

Kinda weird that Weigel would be involved, since in reality, only one or two of their stations could possibly carry it (in Milwaukee and possibly South Bend). In Milwaukee, WMLW Ch. 49.3 is open. The local Fox station is no longer owned by the network and is running Antenna TV on its subchannel. In Chicago, Ch. 32 appears to be getting it.

These stations are owned by Fox and will have Movies!
(Charlotte is not on the list but was just purchased...see other thread)

Atlanta: WAGA-TV (channel 5)
Austin, Texas: KTBC-TV (channel 7)
Boston: WFXT (channel 25)
Chicago: WFLD-TV (channel 32)
Dallas: KDFW-TV (channel 4)
Detroit: WJBK (channel 2)
Houston: KRIV (channel 26)
Los Angeles: KTTV (channel 11)
Memphis: WHBQ-TV (channel 13)
Minneapolis: KMSP-TV (channel 9)
New York City: WNYW (channel 5)
Ocala, Florida: WOGX (channel 51)
Orlando: WOFL (channel 35)
Philadelphia: WTXF-TV (channel 29)
Phoenix: KSAZ-TV (channel 10)
Tampa: WTVT (channel 13)
Washington, D.C.: WTTG (channel 5)

According to TVNewsCheck, language and images considered "inappropriate" will be edited from the movies to be provided through the new programming service. I hope the operators of the service consider broadcasting all of their movies intact without fear of objectors reporting contents considered "inappropriate" to the Federal Communications Commission. If the operators were to take this stance, it could help finally end the FCC's practice of fining TV stations and radio stations for broadcasting content some folks may call "offensive" or "inappropriate".

I like how the first commenter calls this idea 'lame', then goes on to propose 'Classic Fox'.

Another network to show edited movies with endless commercials. Just what we need.
A waste for you maybe, but not for me and probably many others. ThisTV has proven to be a good stop for channel surfers, playing dusty, 'non-classic' films from big studios featuring with notable stars. Did you know Roy Scheider and Treat Williams starred in a 1986 movie called The Men's Club? John Malkovich's shy robot scientist role in Making Mr. Right? I'd have no reason to seek out these movies to judge them as any good...but they happened to show up on This.

I think Fox could do well with a classic Fox channel. But I also think Fox has looked at the landscape and seen so many classic channels that they think movies is a better idea with less competition.

Fox already has Fox Movie Channel on cable. I wonder if this new network will show a lot of the same movies.

Are you sure? Has a list of stations been released? Fox owns two stations in Phoenix: KSAZ 10 (Fox) and KUTP 45 (MyNetwork). They also own similar setups in many other cities (see discussion above). The article cited didn't say that it would air on Fox-affiliated stations, just on Fox-owned stations.

Given Fox's desire to have as much bandwidth as possible on the Fox station, I was betting that the movie channel might actually air on KUTP, although they could always ID it as channel 10.2, as they do with the Fox SD feed that currently airs on My 45.
