Weigel & CBS to start "StartTV" network

What's the deal with all these subchannels having 'TV' in their name? There's METV, Antenna TV, Start TV, This TV, Bounce TV, Cozi TV, Get TV

I know they have H&I as a male focused channel but I wonder could they launch a male oriented channel showing contemporary drama series like the various CSI's, Person of Interest, The Unit, Numbers etc? Probably in a few years these will air on H&I anyway

It's been months now and still no new Antenna TV affiliate for Boston.

titantv has the schedule (at least for Minneapolis). Starts here at 7am Central

schedule as of now
7:00 Dr Quinn
10:00 Medium
1:00 Cold Case
4:00 The Closer
all above in 3 hour blocks
7:00 The Division (2 episodes)
9:00 Family Law
10:00 Profiler (2 hours)

weekday schedule looks like such
12:00 Joan of Arcadia
1:00 Early Edition
4:00 Touched by an Angel
7:00 Dr Quinn
10:00 Medium
1:00 Cold Case
4:00 The Closer
all above in 3 hour blocks except Joan of Arcadia
7:00 The Division (2 episodes)
9:00 Family Law
10:00 Profiler (2 hours)

Surely these contemporary dramas like Medium, Cold Case, The Good Wife and The Closer will rate fairly well with audiences? These are fairly popular recognisable dramas that were hits when they were first broadcast.
Weigel the company who also owns H&I seems to be turning H&I into Start TV's male-focused equilivent by recently adding more contemporary dramas like Numbers, Monk and House.

I'm not so sure. You already have ION running recent series, and these have all had syndicated runs in recent years and demand kind of puttered out. 'Cold Case' may be an exception. I think H&I may lose some appeal in running these more recent shows and displacing several of its classic shows.

But the repeats of more contemporary procedurals like Law and Order, CSI, Criminal Minds rate well on Ion. Some even rate 1 million in prime time. Ion does well for what it is, a repeat channel. It's not like ION are showing the same shows as Start TV/H&I. So there is an audience there.

I wonder how committed CBS was to Decades. I have Spectrum Cable in the NYC suburbs. It never got a place on the lineup. Subchannels from NBC, ABC, Fox and PBS, as well as independent stations, all have their places on the line up. But never Decades.

Don't the individual stations make deals with the cable companies? You can run our regular channel but you have to also carry our subchannel.

I used to like Decades when it would come up with a rarely seen show. But earlier this year, it moved to a regular weekday schedule. There was a place for rarely seen shows from 3-5 a.m. But now even that will be ending as Start TV takes over.

Yes, I think for subchannels, the individual stations do make deals with the Cable Cos. unless they are an O&O and some type of nationwide agreement with the network relating to subchannel carriage is in place.
