Weird conditions early this evening with two new logs 9/17/2011

Earlier this evening (8-9PM or so) the conditions were really weird on the AM. You know how in aurora conditions all directions except the south are closed for skywave? Well it was pretty much the opposite. This evening, the usual S stations (KXTG, KGO, KFBK) were ABSENT. The east was open out to about 900 mi or so. Here's two logs made from this weird opening.

620: KWAL Wallace, ID; sat-fed C&W; ID "AM 620 KWAL"; mention of Kellogg, ID HSFB team the "Wildcats"; also another ID mentioning "Silver Dollar Radio". 1kw, 293 mi, new #394. During the whole opening, this little 1kwer was the only one on the frequency. KPOJ was ABSENT! At times, it was very strong as well.

790: KGHL Billings, MT; classic country (thought it was CFCW); ID "AM 790 KGHL". Only one on freq, maybe another very weak stn in the background. 1.8kw, 661 mi, new #395.

RELOGS
600 KGEZ Kalispell, MT strong at times
750 KERR Polson, MT 1kw nights, only one on freq (VERY RARE!)
970: likely KBUL Billings w/ weather forecast
1070: CFAX Victoria weak groundwave/skywave with absolutely no sign of usual KNX from 900 mi+

Isn't it unusual to not get KGO in the Pacific Northwest? They send a pretty good signal up that way & I remember when I was up there years ago that KGO was strong. Do you normally get KCBS?

I can hear KCBS most nights, usually weak-fair. CBX also makes appearences...
