Weird Rumor: Cumulus and Entercom talking to 'exchange properties'.

OK - I heard this from a well place source in Chicago that Cumulus and Entercom are discussing trading properties in San Francisco, Chicago, Boston and Buffalo.

All I can say is my source is an old Chicago friend who is on-air at WLS-AM. He told me stations in play include WLS-AM, KNBR, WEEI, WGR and others.

Again this is pure speculation.

WEEI in play? Cumulus? What does ETM get, Chi? San Fran? (they have a sports talker in Bay Area already I think), Buffalo? (ETM has a couple big AMs)

Cumulus wouldn't take just WEEI, that'd give them a stand-alone in the market. Suicide today. Then you've got the ETM owned satellites, Worcester and Springfield would compliment the clusters nicely but WVEI-FM would put Cumulus over the ownership cap in Providence.

I don't think I'm buying this one.

I'm not necessarily buying this one, either, but the "over the cap" issue in Providence could be easily solved through divestment; I suspect WPRV, for example, is quite expendable.

They're limited to 4 in any one service. WPRO-FM, WWLI, WEAN-FM, WWKX.

They'd have to unload an FM.

Aren't we forgetting something? In this case, Entercom is the stand-alone in Providence with only 103.7. If you're Cumulus....wouldn't you rather have 103.7 in your cluster instead of either of your Class A's (99.7 or 106.3)?

Just a little food for thought.

I doubt the validity of this rumor is true -- especially in the case of Buffalo. WGR cannot affiliate with CBS sports radio -- which is what Cumulus would want to do. EEI to Cumulus? Out of the question.

WLS-AM Chicago to Entercomm for WAAF -FM and WRKO -AM TO Cumlus. Each group gets into a new market. Rumor started from someone at WLS -AM IN cHICAGO.

if that's the case I wonder how that would play out, could see cumulus changing waaf to country depends which signal they get.

How about Cumulus getting RKO and, if not keeping it a talker, running CBS Sports Radio full time
which they syndicate? Or whatever. Hearing how PPMs have resulted in really lousy numbers for
talkers...Cumulus does have some syndie talk though and could run local & national shows on RKO
if they got it.

let's hope that everything is good for us and the listenner

Yeah, don't bet the mortgage money on that. Since when do listeners matter any more to those companies? And thank you for a post without the words "Urban AC" in it...finally. ;) ;)

So while the rumor goes Cumulus could pick up WRKO... Rush may be leaving Cumulus... (but what other station would pick up Rush in town if RKO is owned by Cumul. by then?)

>>Should the move take place, 40 Cumulus-owned radio stations would lose the rights to the most popular talk radio program in the country. In addition, the show might be picked up by competing regional radio stations in Washington, New York, Chicago, Dallas and other major markets.

Let me get this straight: you're talking about how an unsubstantiated rumor about programming would have an effect on an unsubstantiated rumor about ownership?

We need something to talk about between actual news about radio--and if it DOES happen we'll
say we had a scoop! We'll see what happens w/ Rush & Cumulus btw.

??? Look, please don't start rumers if we can not confirm the truth. Because I can't sleep at night. I'm looking for a good (Full Time) job in radio and trying to get one. But nobody ever give me a chance.
I do work a few hours on the weekend in radio but would love to work Full time.
Seeing these rumers get me excited and pumped up, but reading more replies look like it's not true, then it make me sad.

I'm sure Rush can't be happy that the head of Cumulus has more-or-less blamed Rush for some of his company's talk stations under-performing those of the competition.

Rush is at a point in life (and his career) where he doesn't have to take any @#$% from anyone. If he did leave...I couldn't blame him.

Last time I checked he was making $59 million a year. He'll be fine.

If I post facts I'll give you a source to back them up; otherwise it's speculation. And sometimes
things do come true eventually. Anything that's a rumor or speculation I'll mention as such... "rumor".

Well, for starters, I'd like to see how Lew Dickey justifies his claim...and even if he could, I still not sure I would trust what he says.

And Rush most certainly WILL have to take Cumulus' @#$% until the end of the year, even if he decides to leave. Cumulus' current contract with Rush's syndicator runs until 12/31/13.

If want to work in radio why do you always want syndicated shows to air in local markets? you know that takes work away right?
