Driving to work today, I had on 106.7 while driving the West Shore Bypass around Reading ... a spot where Mix usually always comes in crystal clear. Today, however, there was a lot of trop going on, and I was having trouble with all sorts of local stations ... instead picking up distant stations.
As I drive, I flip back and forth amongst many stations. At about 9:40, I flipped to 106.7 and I hear this outright contemporary jazz piece (possibly David Sanborn) on 106.7. I thought to myself "hmm, must be trop. I must be picking up some smooth jazz station on the 106.7 frequency." It was hard to tell because this jazz piece was in the forefront, but there were other stations fighting in the background. I thought one of those background stations was Mix, and this contemporary jazz piece was trop of some smooth jazz station somewhere.
To my surprise, however, right after the song, I hear a liner for "Mix" and into the next song, a regular retro AC song that they normally play.
Was that "Mix" that I heard playing contemporary jazz for one song??? Or did another station's trop just so happen to perfectly time itself into my radio just before "Mix" came back with a "Mix" liner? Freaky!
If "Mix" is, excuse the pun, "mixing" in some contemporary jazz now, this would be unprecedented. They definetely would be breaking new ground (mixing in an occasional smooth jazz piece with AC) and it would be a definite shot at WSJW, who actually beat the 106.7 frequency two books ago with their tiny signal vs. 106.7's massive signal.
Has anyone else heard instrumentals on "Mix" or was it a weird case of trop timed perfectly?
