I don't doubt that you heard something like this, but could it have been an image frequency? I have checked every online source of frequency lists and the World Radio TV handbook, including older editions, and nothing like that comes close. What year, month and what time were you hearing this station? Usually the audio from thousands of miles away is attenuated quite severely so the signal must have been very strong for audio to be intelligible enough to discern its content. The signal from a great distance on MW usually fades in and out slowly, though the signal fades in and out much more slowly on LW and the low end of MW <1000kHz.
There are two high powered stations in Sri Lanka, both 400kW, one's around 873-882 kHz and another on 1548 kHz (no I have never heard either) Were there other heterodynes on the AM/MW dial while you heard the station on 1395? What were you using for a receive setup? I would agree that from Texas that would be an incredible catch, I have read DX reports that Saudi Arabia has been heard on 1521 from Texas, though they are reported to be running 2000kW (yes, that's 2 million watts!) It is also possible that 1395 kHz was considered and tested for a while. Does anyone know if 1395 was used temporarily?
