Going to WB the other day reminded me of the old days I was up there in the floods of the summer of 1972 have not been up their since, was in the Army just got back from Nam and they asked if anyone was from PA and wanted to help out and have duty in WB. I volunteered being from Philly and was stationed in a cigar factory in Forty Fort next to the sus river, was there all summer to help out, great people up that way...we cleaned out Nesbitt Hospital dont know if its still there. Well anyway...I had an old AM radio and had WEJL on every day they signed off at night I think they were running the Solid Gold Hit Parade format and it kept me going day in day out...not many FM music stations at that time up there and the WB stations were mostly off the air...just wanted to share this is WEJL still on the air...I think they were around 600 on the dial....did not have a chance to scan the AM dial the other day...

Glad to know they are still on the air....but not music like so many AM's, they were really good in 1972 with the syndicated Solid Gold/Hit Parade format.

Wejl-am 630 sounded good with a full service ac format through the 70s,
then an adult standards format in the 80s,through the mid 90s(They should have never droped that format!)

Does anyone remember the big old lighted sign atop the WEJL building? From what I remember, it had a big sign that said The New York Times or something. My grandfather actually installed all those lights, as he was an electrician back in the day. My mom grew up in Scranton in the 50s and 60s. Her father always loved WEJL, while my mom always listened to WARM The Mighty 590 (Is that still around?) I haven't been to Scranton in a long time, but one thing I distinctly remember was, I remember there was this one street where they had these two round brown structures with circular windows going around on the top. I remember seeing them when I was just 3 years old, and of course I asked my mom what it was called, and she said "I don't know what it is." At the time, I actually thought that it was called an "I-don't-know-what-it-is." I know it was still there in 1996, but I'm not sure if it's there now. Does anyone know if it's still there, and regardless, what it/was used for?

The Lighted "Times" is still on the building since it is the flagship of the Lynett Empire. Also, the round brown things with circular windows were utility stations put there under the city's redevelopment back in the 1970's. They are long gone...along with the Hotel Casey and most of the businesses.
