Welcome back, 99x! The first song....

"Know Your Enemy" by Green Day.

Pretty cool launch audio. Incorporated audio from the Power 99 switch as well as a handful of "I AM 99X" sweepers that they used to play.

Welcome back, old friend.

Top of the hour liners:

"Redheaded stepchild of Cumulus media"
"Alternative is back, and it's staticky"

I love it!

..and now they're playing that song that makes Nickelback sound like musical gods:

Paralyzer- Finger 11.

97.9 is toast.

Meanwhile on the quality rock station they are playing 311???? I am not sure how they are trying to position these two stations.

I still prefer their original playlist with more of the 80's metal and some deeper classic than the River.

How far is it our of the realm of possibility that 97.9 could move to 100.5 at some point? Even TRG just may sorta kinda fit.

It's very interesting to see and hear about this 99x on 97.9. Wish I was there to actually hear all this going on.
We have an alternative rock here in Arizona at 97.9, called 98 KUPD. Very close to Power 98.3 where hip ho... I meant, "the valleys #1 hit music station" (where Britney isn't even played). At least our other Valley's #1 hit music station plays more real "hits", but not as much as the station that plays "all the hits".

I'm noticing a lot of things in radio don't really make too much sense.... but 99x at 97? Is this really happening now? And where's Q100? at 99.7? I guess it's safe to round up from a .7, but 97.9 up to 99 is a big jump. 97x or 98x would make more sense, even though it doesn't sound as decent as 99x. How about 97.9 The Zone?

It's a declining industry and 99x is an existing recognizable "brand". Milk every last drop of an existing brand cause IMHO there aren't going to be any new brands on the radio built of any real value or the same level of recognition, as little as even "99x" has.

And, as several other posters said, with PPM you don't have to have a frequency-accurate moniker. You could even call yourself Steve or Dave or something...

So, to clarify, even though the station is on 97.9 it's still being called 99X?

Yes. It is still being called 99x. Specifically I think it's being called "99x at 97.9".

But given Cumelus, it wouldn't surprise me if maybe they try and mix it up week to week. How's "97x at 100.5"? Or "680 The Fan at 99.7"? Or "99Q WNNX at 97.9". Or " 10 games in a row on Quality Sports 680 The Fan."

Back in the day when Birmingham still had 107.7 the X, they got bumped to 100.5 and became The X at 100.5. Wouldn't be surprised to see something similar happen in the ATL.

Yeah, but keep in mind that 97.9 is a translator. The primary signal is 99.7 HD-2. So, in a sense, it's still 99X on 99.7... and 97.9

My bad, Floyd, you are correct. :)

No problem, bud. I'm glad to be good for something! ;D
