WJQK/Grand Rapids (Positive Hits JQ99) has named Gary Thompson as Music Director and Afternoon Drive Announcer effective July 1st. "To be able to land a talent like Gary and hire him away from secular radio makes us very excited about the future. Gary will have an impact on the station from the moment he walks in the door." said Troy West, JQ99's Station Manager. "Gary has a great mind and feel for radio, and I'm looking forward to handing over Programming duties to him in the future."
Thompson's Christian radio experience started at KXOJ/Tulsa doing overnights. He's also been with Tulsa stations KCFO, KRAV, KWEN and KKCM. as well as PD at WCVO/Columbus. More recently, Thompson was Associate Program Director for KXOJ from 2002-2006. Thompson has spent the last year on air and in programming at Cox's WHKO/Dayton.
Gary says "Lanser Broadcasting has a 30 year tradition of excellence in Christian Music radio. Les Lanser was one of the first owners in the format to believe in the power of and all music format in CCM. Troy West has been with the company 14 years. He and I have talked off and on for the last 7 years about how great it would be to work together. Troy and I are from the same small town in Kansas. I grew up listening to Troy in the 1980's when he was a nutty morning DJ on KIKS in Iola, Ks. To work with him now is an immense honor and pleasure. The fact that two Iola boys have ended up together in the frozen north is further proof that God has a sense of humor."
