Ahhh yes! Yesterdays music today with BK The Dj! Whooo!!!
You're quick to criticize anyone who plays oldies exclusively. Unlike what you have previously suggested, most people don't want to hear programming from the 50's through the 90's.
Sure, there are certain songs from that entire era that appeal to some people, but to put all of them together to satisfy a mass audience is impossible.
Have you been reading the NY Board? CBS-FM dumped oldies 2 years ago for the so-called "Jack" format which is similar to what you are advocating, and it has been a big failure in both ratings and lost revenue. They're switching back to oldies on Thursday.
You also made a comment a few days ago about people "living in the past." I don't live in the past, and either do most other people who like oldies radio. I live in the present and look to the future, but when I'm in the mood for some 50's and 60's, I tune to the station that's playin' it. It's not about pretending it is 1965, it's about diggin' a certain kind of sound for a certain part of a particular day. And when I do, I don't want to hear The Smashing Pumpkins and Fall Out Boy in between Elvis and The Beatles.
What you do on your specialty show is your business, and I hypothesize that you play what you want to hear and not necessarily play to mass audience appeal. You must, because no sane person would ever program a station like that and expect to make money.
