WZMR. R.I.P the Edge. In the middle of Gazers show, The Edge has flipped to "the cat". Welcome to hard rockin cowboys, boys & girls!

I really wasn't serious about Jamz being next. Who knows what could happen next. I'd be nervous if I were working at 6 Johnson Road. All these surprise changes can't be good for morale.

I wonder how long this will last. 104.9 was simulcast a while back with froggy 107.1, but it was never planned to be long term. Prior to that, Pamal had country on what is now jamz 96.3. It was CD country, a satellite fed hot country format when Morrell bought it from Brian Jackson. The station then was switched to real country, later classic hits country, and finally switched to "power country" which went head on With WGNA. The head on lasted a very short time. An now they are trying country again. WGNA which has been country since DEC. 1973 when it went on the air is established, has a loyal following, and larger coverage area will come through this latest attempt without problems.

The edge was probably the only good rock station in the area. sadly 103.1's coperate white wash make have the DJs sound like prerecordings or robots. About the only way I can see them salvaging this would be to move "Albany edge" over to a different frequency, which will probably make the christians in glens falls happy when bible time doesn't suddenly turn into "enter the sandman" by metalica.

Changing so many formats so many times, such poor promotional management (some stuff isn't promoted till a week ahead of time, other stuff was announced monthes in advance to the point people forget about it), and website management (events would be mentioned on the radio but not the actual website till after the event) sort of shows the crappy management albany broadcasting has. Its really sad to see the talent there but the direction seems to go no where.I guess you could see this coming in hindsight; all the pormotions like tripping thursday ended today, they weren't promoting any concerts, an entire "comercial free weekend", meaning they can tell the DJs to get on board or pack their bags, the fact they were actualy getting replacement equipment in the studio, etc.

It will be interesting to see if Albany broadcasting will still be broadcasting in a years time.

Because thats what they are! Their afternoons are pre-recorded by one of the morning side kicks on PYX, there isn't any mid-day DJ, not even an attempt at voice tracking, and the evening, overnight and weekend shifts are syndicated out of market DJs (Premium Choice DJs-they call them). The benefactor of this move will probably be what was the original Edge, now Q-103 WQBK/WQBJ 103.5/103.9. Their music is much more similar to what was played on 104.9, than that of 103.1 these days, which now plays a lot of classic rock too. Plus, unlike 103.1, they have local jocks, most of whom have been in the market for a long time. As far as 104.9 going country (lol)...you have to be kidding me! You now have one of the worst FM signals (next to 93.7 and 94.5) in the market attempting to take on one of the very best signals in the market that has been in the format since they signed on in 1973.
Obviously, just like the destruction of Magic 100.9 earlier this week, this is all an attempt to prop up B-95.

So what happened to the air staff? Is Mulrooney going to be sporting a cowboy hat now? Is enforcer going to become Mike the Mechanical Bull??? I guess he'll have to start shouting "yee-haw" at Multooney's inane jokes instead of trying to drown him out with that over bearing forced laughter...What about the rest of them???

supposedly all DJs have been given the option to stay, but seeing a lot of them try to fit into this new format would be absurd.

Could be. But Cumulonimbus kept the air staff in place when they flipped Y-105 to Country KICK's 105.5 in Danbury. It was reported they spent 3 months getting the staff trained on Country Music.

And let's not forget the most popular example of a radio station switching to country music while holding over the jocks from another format, specifically , a rock format...

"Howdy, cowpokes. Uh, I know I shouldn't be interrupting in the middle of a song, but I gotta tell you something. I know a lot of you out there really love this music, but I just don't get it. Explain it to me... And, maybe it's because I went to college, and I never drove a truck, and had sex with my daddy's sister, but... I guess what I'm trying to say is, I...I don't think I'm the man for this job...

So, this is your old pal "Hopalong Howie" saying, I quit. I... I think I quit..."

;D

At least they are doing something to go after WGNA a little bit, albeit with their worst signal, and possibly the worst FM signal in the Albany market. What is the saying... "failure is not an option, unless it is, in which case it will be a race to the bottom and Albany Broadcasting is winning" It would be very surprising if they keep any DJ's on this station, it will likely degenerate into some sort of voice tracked or satellite based repeater radio in 6-8 months. Of course, ABC will spend lots of money to promote it and do lots of public appearances, public service, and make it a real local radio station. I would also be surprised if ABC is still in business in 12 months
