This morning it looks like the KXLY group has pulled the plug on "[email protected]" They were playing 80's 90's and now....believe it was this morning, they dropped the Breakfast Boys, Molly, and the rest of the staff and have gone Hip-Hop. Spokane has not had a Churban Station since "Wild 103-9" went "Bob-FM." Not sure what they are doing staff wise. And it seems odd they would do this since Star just came up in the ratings, and 93ZooFM has all the kids and Citadel found it very hard to sell "Wild 103-9" in Spokane......I guess that the KXLY group wants to keep the competition "in-house." More info when available....on the new Hip-Hop station for Spokane "Wired at 96.9."

Actually it makes perfect sense...freakin BRILLIANT! Look to the recent sales of radio stations in the market for your answers ;)

Trouble with Wild was it was difficult for the Citadel folks to sell (you can imagine a Citadel sales exec trying to promote hip-hop to a potential client):

"(CLEARING THROAT) Now then. Dis new shizz gonna get yo ass more bling from da peeps in Spo-town. Flava in ya ear, yo check. Kanye West, 50 Cent, Jay-Z. It be gangsta. Sign here....."

I think KXLY can do better at it, even though it may sabotage some of KZZU's ratings thunder, at least, like you said, it's still in-house.....

I'm guessing KXLY is trying to do whatever they can to foil this news that came out about a 10 days ago. Clearly, Clifton, who's success is based in rhythmic CHR, was going to bring "Wired" to Spokane for himself. They probably never considered someone would try and block. I'm guessing Ken and Dave back to KZZU, since Ken is the PD anyway.

Pro-Active Communications, a new ownership group formed by industry veteran Barry Richards, consultant Jerry Clifton and ex-WRDW/Philadelphia GM Dave Donahue, has purchased KMJY/Spokane.

I don't think Ken is ZZU PD anymore. Maynard formerly of Z-100/Portland has moved to Spokane and I believe is programming both Wired and Zoo as well as handling PM drive on Wired.

I smell a showdown in Spokane. Who would have guessed hip-hop radio armageddon would be played out in Spokane.....not Compton.

Looks like Spokane jocks will all have to adopt hip-hop names. Like DJ 2J (JJ Hemingway), S-Luv (Scott Valentine). And let's not forget T-Dogg (Tom Read).

"Droppin' da Word from Spo-town. This shizzle...is A-C-N"

This is nothing new to the folks at Spokane Television Group: They tried it before at KZZU from 1996 to 1997 and did very well with it, so you might say this is a 'return' of sorts.

BTW here's their soon-to-be 'wired' website:
