Welcome to the Rhode Island Board

It's not a Road and it's not an Island. What the hell is it? We also arn't in New York. That's Long Island, Dummy. We drink Coffee Milk here. But it really isn't coffee at all. People here care that they get a low Number License plate. You supposedly gain more respect. Personally I think it shows that we are wacked out. In Rhode Island you can drive from one end of the state to the other in 45 Minutes. New York City has more residents than we have in the whole state. Rhode Island is known for The Mob and Corrupt Goverment. The Mayor of Providence is serving time in Prison and the new mayor is as *** as Richard Simmons. Famous people live and work here. Matt Lauer and Meridenth Viera from the Today Show both worked at WJAR for years. The Late Great Ted Knight from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "To Close for Comfort" also worked here. Ernie Anderson, One of the Best Announcers to ever live. (ABC TV, "The LUUUUV Boat" and Americas Funniest Home Videos) used to be the number one DJ at a Providence, RI station. Ernie was fired for riding his motorcycle through the halls. The Movie Dumb and Dumber was partially filmed here and so was "Something About Mary", Both produced by The Farrelly brothers who grew up in Rhode Island. Take a look at the cartoon "FAMILY GUY" on FOX. Take a Wild guess where they live. You guessed it, RHODE ISLAND. Currently filming here is "UNDERDOG" The Movie and our own version of the Sopranos titled "BROTHERHOOD" which starts on SHOWTIME in July. Rhode Island is home of the Pawtucket Red Sox, Minor league Team for the World Famous Boston Red Sox. Rhode Island is an interesting piece of Land. It feels more like a City than a state. Some people find that Rhode Island offers a close knit family feeling. To some that's a reason to stay. For others it's a reason to leave. However... no matter how you look at it, this is a place you will never forget. WELCOME TO RHODE ISLAND.

You got your good radio stations - Lite Rock 105 and WEEI-FM and your bad ones - 1320 The Drive and The Score FM/AM.You got your capital city with has no direct highway access to the capital city of Hartford in Connecticut. Big battle in the 1960s/1970s about that one. Something to do with public water supply. Someone I know of has driven from Hartford to Providence and back something like ten or more times and has gone a different way all the times because of this. You got a crappy PBS station and a mediocre ABC station. You got the stupid crappy junk store chain Ocean State Job Lot, who is suing the city of Bristol in Connecticut because Job Lot doesn't think they should be evicted from the city owned mall despite the fact that they along with all the other tenants in the mall that their lease would be null and void and they had to be out by 12/31/05. (They want to stay for the remaining 7 years on their lease despite the fact they opened a second store elsewhere in town).P.S. I've never been to Rhode Island aka The 13th state.

If you are in Providence you can get stations from Two markets (Providence and Boston). If you go 25 or 30 miles west of Providence you'll have the Luxury of being able to pick up Radio and TV stations from Three Markets! (Hartford, Boston and Providence). Your dial will be full of Stations from end to end.

> We drink Coffee Milk here. But it really isn't coffee at all. Coffee milk ain't been the same since Autocrat bought out Eclipse years ago. I still have seven plastic containers of the old Eclipse on hand here in Alaska. They're the remainder of full case I had shipped to me at immense cost over 10 years ago. The stuff never expires; it ages like fine wine.> People here care that they get a low Number License plate. You supposedly gain more respect.Nawwww.....it shows you either have political influence or somebody generations ago got plates and they've stayed in the family.> Rhode Island is known for The Mob and Corrupt Goverment. The Mayor of Providence is serving time in Prison....A mark of distinction. Trust me, he'll be back with a #1 rated talk show on WPRO.> Ernie Anderson, One of the Best Announcers to ever live. (ABC TV, "The LUUUUV Boat" and Americas Funniest Home Videos) used to be the number one DJ at a Providence, RI station. At WHIM (1110) to be exact. So if you know about Ernie, you gotta know about Mrs. Pierce, right? But did you know that Vin DiBono (spelling?), creator of AFHV, was once a director at the old WTEV?Those people driving the length of the state in 45-minutes gotta be tourists. No self-respecting Rho Dylander would observe speed limits that made it take THAT long! The same kinda people you can convince clam chowder is really made with clams and wouldn't know a quahog if it bit them in the assets. Silly buggers also can be convinced that clam chowda oughta be red. Some people find that Rhode Island offers a close knit family feeling. This is true; The Patriarca family. But, then, I'm living in the past. I was there a little over two weeks ago and am only just getting over having reverted to the dialect, a disease caught by drinking outta a bubbla and bringing linguica back to Alaska in hand-carried luggage unrefrigerated. Homeland Security thought I had packed up some sensiitive body parts when they X-rayed my bag. They wanted to open the vacuum sealed packages just be sure 'cause they said that the links looked like sensitive body parts. Musta thought I was some kinda hit man from da hill.

This board doesn't seem to have much activity. Lunch on Federal Hill anyone?

This Board is useless , Providence Board is all we need for this area .

I am glad this board is still here. Rhode Island isn't just Providence like New England isn't just Boston. What about South County stations that aren't even in the Providence market? No, keep this board!

There aren't any. WJZS, WCRI and even little WKIV in Westerly are considered part of the Providence-Warwick-Pawtucket market.
I think Rhode Island is a 100 score, every station in the state is in the market.

But Rhode Island is definatley unique. We AREN'T Boston. Someone said at one time the two markets should merge.
Everything John said is true. And people who live here complain about it , but someone from outside complains, those people will DEFEND the state to their grave! It's amazing how it is.

True enough about R.I. being unique. It's true that we defend the state against outsiders (ESPECIALLY Mass & Ct.) but deride it openly ourselves.

Now should a Rhode Island-centric station a la New Jersey 101.5 launch? Oh wait, we already have WPRO! Channel 10, Del's, coffee milk, Nibbles Woodaway & WPRO! It's what it means to be from here!
