With all the people tuning in to WFNX to catch the changeover, I wonder if next month they will show a huge bump in the PPM ratings :D

It's not like the story is dominating the evening news or anything. Nobody cares but the few listeners WFNX has and a couple of dozen radio geeks. Even CC doesn't care, no publicity, no promotion, no advertising, no nothing for its $14 million baby. Wouldn't be surprised if they bought it just to put the cheapest possible format on it and sell it to someone else when the economy is better. Of course, that's assuming that radio will still be relevant when that happens. Obviously CC believes it will be.

Has it ever done much more than a 1 ish share?

There was a hey day when they had well more than a 1 share.

My guess about what happened last night: They have a two hour long local show that is programmed live from 8-10. That show had a finale last week. So whomever is left programming WFNX had the log set to go to live local at 8, then go back to automation at 10. But when 8 didn't happen it skipped right to the 10 - midnight programming. This explains why they went dead at 10 ish and came back with a repeat of last week's Z to A countdown at midnight.

That has to be what happened. Sloppy.

I called up Clear channel to see when it will go on the air at 101.7

When the FCC approves the transfer, you will hear the change. No one knows when that will happen.

The FCC has approved the transfer. That's why the wait is a puzzle to us all.

The sale might not have closed even though the license has been transferred. In addition to the frequency there is real property involved (transmitter, antenna, tower lease, etc) that all needs to be dealt with.

If 90's alt rock is becoming classic rock why wasn't CBS forward looking enough to merge the newer WZLX (1985) in to the older WBCN (1968) at the 104.1 frequency and fuse the two formats?

I'd think that because, by 2009 when the analog WBCN's plug was pulled, it had declined so far that it was getting something like 1/4 of WZLX's numbers, maybe even less. You don't change a successful station and dilute a formula that's working to get a smaller amount of listeners from a less successful station that's being taken off the air.

That's like people who suggest that WROR tweak their format to sound more like the former WODS Classic Hits format, when WROR was recently beating WODS's old format in the ratings before their flip to CHR.

the application was accepted by the FCC for refilling today. possible typo? So it is not final.

Hey, why it's going to be late Tuesday/early Wednesday in several hours from now! For whatever it's worth, thanks for the tip!

I don't know if this is anything, but at 2PM, the Z to A stopped on 101.7 and they're just playing what sounds like a normal playlist. They even identified as "101.7 WFNX." Hmmm...

This just in: today is officially #WFNX's last day on 101.7. The switch could happen anytime between now and midnight.

listening now on 101.7 actual signal 3 pm no flip yet

someone else tweeted: This just in: today is officially #WFNX's last day on 101.7. The switch could happen anytime between now and midnight.

from bostonradio on twitter

At any time 101.7 could break away from wfnx's stream.
If you're listening to wfnx stream you'll probably wont get the actual format flip on 101.7
if it happens this afternoon, these would be the times - 3p,4p,5pm or 6pm

They are playing 'End of the World' by REM - this might be it.
