Welcome WHBA 101.7 The Harbor

I can't believe how bad the positioner statements are. Did someone really think they were funny or entertaining? They are just stupid. Poorly thought out, poorly executed, and no doubt they will be poorly received.

Hello, you're in a major market, this isn't Wichita.

Would you expect any less from Crap Channel?

Mike FM's sweepers were FAR funnier. I still laugh at "we have a saying around here...if you don't like the weather, go back to where you came from."

Now THAT spoke to Bostonians. These sweepers do not.

Some funny comments from FNX fans via Facebook:

"The Harbor? Phew. something smells like low tide."

"They'll play anything eh? How about the old FNX?"

"This is as bad as when Headbanger's Ball was replaced with Superrock."

"Mike FM started out playing some oh wow songs and then narrowed the playlist. The Harbor starts OUT with the narrow playlist."

"Why don't they just call it '101.7 - the Corporation"

"Radio as iPod huh? This means people STICK to iPods. Next!"

"That logo is sickly. Looks like something off the Cap'n Crunch box."

;D ;D ;D Hilarious..

Now, if they used those as sweepers, I'd actually put up with the poor music! :)

Agreed. Mike was an enjoyable station to listen to. This one looks like it will be not.

Where were these hipsters when FNX constantly got ratings below a 1 share? It seems the Harbor has more people complaining about it than actually listened to FNX.

Does anyone under 30 listen to terrestrial radio anymore?

Makes one long for the days of DXing AM radio with the old 9V transistor (89 WLS, The Big 8 CKLW and 77 WABC and 98 WTRY (though 98 CKGM would win the battle some nights...) were my favs)....All three came in strong all night in my South Shore abode....

Listening to its stream, which was highly rated. WFNX had a good cume for the size of its signal, too.

The problem for FNX is that it couldn't be sold as part of a cluster in a market with four clusters. There was no significant problem with the station's content.

On or around November 1st, "The Harbor" will likely go all-Christmas, given that it's probably the only legitimate option for Christmas Channel (a/k/a Clear Channel) to go with an all-Christmas format in this market.

If Clear Channel wants to make "Harbor 101.7" their all-Christmas outlet in Boston, they may have to jump very early to avoid being beaten by someone else.

If WHBA-101.7 goes all-Christmas that early, WBMX-104.1 (which will probably replace WODS-103.3 as CBS Radio's local all-Christmas station) and either WROR-105.7 or WMJX-106.7 (I wouldn't be surprised if Greater Media's all-Santa station in 2012 is the latter) will quickly follow suit.

The day after Halloween, or at the latest, a few days afterwards, Boston could have three all-Christmas stations!

The problem for FNX is that it couldn't be sold as part of a cluster in a market with four clusters. There was no significant problem with the station's content.

The rule imposes restrictions based on a sliding scale that varies by the size of the market: (1) in a radio market with 45 or more stations, an entity may own up to eight radio stations, no more than five of which may be in the same service (AM or FM); (2) in a radio market with between 30 and 44 radio stations, an entity may own up to seven radio stations, no more than four of which may be in the same service

Of the four clusters - Greater Media is maxed out on FM with 5, CBS 4 , Entercom 3 and CC now has 3.

CBS had no real use for 101.7 unless they wanted to simulcast 1030 inside 128. Once Entercom blew up 93.7 that really left CC as the only buyer.

There is only one other commercial license on FM to be had now and WHRB will NEVER sell it.

Say what you want, imaging is on the cheesy side, but the music mix sounds fine to me. That element of Mike is back.

What element of Mike isn't back is the signal. I wasn't a big 'FNX listener, so it's hard for me to compare. But I listened to the first hour in the Framingham area, where it sounded beyond awful. I felt like I was DXing a far-away signal. At one point, I was getting bleed from WWBB; at another point, the humid weather caused a country station from somewhere to completely overtake the signal. Regardless of the music, I can't imagine anyone putting this station on their presets in this area given how poor the station comes in.

I can only think of one other WHBA little-signal-in-a-big-city situation - WQXR in New York City. And even that station is a B1! It's going to be an uphill road for this station against the signals of WROR, WBMX, and WMJX, unless Clear Channel brings a simulcast on 1200, 93.3, or 101.5 into the mix - and the merits of those have already been discussed in-depth.

Just checked out the Harbor's Facebook page - and OUCH...looks like not one fan on there...just p/oed listeners..LOL.
