Welcome WHBA 101.7 The Harbor

Did you guys expect anything different from cc? All they care about is protecting their two little monsters jam'n&kiss. 101.7 "the harbor" is just a pawn in that effort.

I think HD is dead on 101.5 by design. I have an HD radio and I had to find it on EBay - HD is a complete failure.

I was in a Best Buy last week, and I saw a newly remodeled version of the Insignia FM HD personal portable, a new small Insignia FM HD stereo portable/table radio that just came out, and three different in-dash car stereos with HD by Pioneer and a couple of other brands.

The one I bought on Ebay has AM and a clock radio

The unit you mentioned has no AM

Right, it doesn't. It's a smaller portable, and it runs on batteries or AC.

I believe I also have one of those same AM/FM HD stereo clock table radios, it's made by iLuv. I bought it new a few years ago, but it has unfortunately been discontinued. It gets better HD reception than any of the Insignias, and also better than the Sangean tuner that I also have which will not hold on to HD3's at all.

There are now only two AM stations in HD in the Boston area, WBZ 1030 and WMKI 1260. Clear Channel shut it off on WKOX 1430 a few weeks ago.

Not so sure an adult hits station like Harbor will go all Christmas but who knows.
WODS' last all Christmas may have worked for awhile but the listeners didn't stick around (or they did
but are in an undesirable demo)

Re: Harbor 101.7 debut audio

The country song on before Dirty Water was 5-1-5-0 by Dirks Bentley. It may have been a trick thrown at us because they had mentioned country as a possible format when they got the station in May

Re: Harbor 101.7 debut audio

Was hoping you got the moment when WFNX cut out :(
Thanks for the audio just the same.

How long till someone applies for the WFNX calls? Maybe not in high demand but who knows.
Saw on Twitter that CC was going to park them in the Carolinas - not sure where the person got the info from.

Re: Harbor 101.7 debut audio

::) another Rock and Roll station. I heard nothing but Rock and Roll. No Luther Vandros, no Freddie Jackson.
and they say they play everything
Liers!!!!

They have bcn calls on AM 1660 Charlotte. Someone on boston-radio-interest said something like WBMX calls mean nothing to them and CBS could bring BCN calls back here. Maybe if 104.1 became simulcast of WBZ AM, they would make 104.1 WBZ-FM and put BCN calls on 98.5

Re: Harbor 101.7 debut audio

Listening to them as they started and indeed a bit later it does sound like mostly rock. There were some R&B based artists like M. Jsckson, Prince, etc. but mostly rock: Georgia Satellites. Check out their webpage and list of what was played: Springsteen,Queen, Journey, Def Leppard, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bon Jovi. Again the We Play Anything line is pure BS--not just a lack of R&B-based/dance/soul material for the most part but none of the bizarre stuff that Mike threw in when they first started: Tony Bennett, Diesel (one hit wonder), country, etc. Even Mike narrowed its playlist eventually. (Before the playing of dirty water they were playing 5-1-5-0 by country artist Dirks Bentley. I doubt you'll hear that again. It was probably an in-joke--when the word of the sale came out it was right after WKLB had a good book. They told us IIRC the new format could be country or Spanish language.
So I think they were funnin' us.

When someone started up a Save Mike 93.7 facebook a lot of people said they loved it and it was stuff you couldn't hear anyplace else. Really? Not exactly. This does seem to have an 80s focus--a rock focus. You may as well be listening to XM 80s on 8 (some 90s too, occasional 70s) only the XM stations aren't as rock focused as Harbor is.
Yet some will love it. People maybe at a workplace who turn on a boombox to hear these all--too--familiar artists.
It's a jukebox with limited focus. And yes Mike did make $$ for Entercom and this could make money for CC.
Not that it has local content or interesting shows or features.

Go to their site and look at the album covers: only Prince and Michael Jackson are black. The rest--talk about vanilla ice cream. Yeah maybe they'll throw in a Donna Summer cut but the lack of soul/R&B/blues/jazz
is apparent.

Re: Harbor 101.7 debut audio

Thank you for sparing us an additional 5:36 seconds of "Dirty Water" on the recording :D

What do you use to capture?

Re: Harbor 101.7 debut audio

I use Audio Record Wizard 5 ($25 http://nowsmart.com/ ) and patch the sound from my stereo into the computer. (Audacity, which is free, will also work and does have a timer function but you may have to convert to mp3 via LAME encoding).
ARW5 can only do things up to 24 hrs in advance with timer, but Audacity I think can have you set the timer for longer periods into the future.
As for editing, it was free mp3 Direct Cut where you can isolate certain things or cut them, etc. For example if my station (WMWM) has an interview and I record the whole show, I can just isolate the interview and save it.

Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
mp3 Direct Cut: http://download.cnet.com/MP3DirectCut/3000-2169_4-10068315.html

Audio Record Wizard and Audacity can rec. directly off speakers/"StereoMix" from your computer, not just from outside source of course.

Are there any communities named Phoenix east of the Mississippi? Would be a logical choice if there was, say, a Phoenix, Ohio or something. Or some company could snatch up the calls for their generic small-market "alt rock" station, like the WXRK calls moved around a couple of times.

I'm sure someone mentioned it before, but WHBA *does* sort of fill the big format hole left behind by both Mike FM and WODS. It'll be interesting to see if it does better than WFNX's 1.3 share (.08 terrestrial + .05 stream last time we could see their 6+ numbers).

Someone earlier posted about the processing - heard WHBA play Bohemian Rhapsody yesterday - the "Skatamoosh" section of that song will really demonstrate a station's dynamic range, and indeed it was like listening to the CD, no flattening out of the levels at all. It actually sounded really good.

in any case. I hope they can succeed
In your earlier post, you mention that they are just another rock station and not playing everything I.e. soul, R&B, etc. calling them liars and now you say that you hope they succeed. Huh! ???
