WELE is under investigation

Bob,

Thank you for the update. This is truly a bad situation, especially for the travel customers, assuming any of the allegations are true.

Hopefully WELE can and will remain on the air and operting. Keep us posted on any news relating to this story.

There are potential civil liabilities should any of the former travel customers decide to file suit against WELE. Of course it's common knowledge that in our current legal system anyone can sue anyone for any reason at anytime. And just because a suit has been filed and goes to litigation doesn't necessarily mean the Plaintiff will prevail in the case. It depends on the preponderance of the evidence presented. And in the case of a jury trial, it's a "crap shoot" giving both the Plaintiff and the Respondent virtually the same odds as anyone would have in Las Vegas.

Wings Communications has been (and is being) taken to Volusia County Small Claims Court over travel packages that never happened and refunds that were never given. Several people, including us, have been successful in getting judgments against Wings Communications through this venue. You can check this out on the Volusia County Small Claims Court website. Look for Wings Communications, WELE radio, and/or Douglas Wilhite. You may need to play around with this site the first time or two. We now have a lein against the station - it cannot be sold, traded, given away or anything else until all debts have been paid. We are only one in a long string of people owed money and to date have received nothing. He has not even acknowledged that there is a judgment in our favor against him.

I see the Central Florida Radio site is reporting WELE lost its local morning show. Running Imus in the morning as the replacement.

As I am told the story it was Doug Kosarek who decided to pull Wake Up Daytona off WELE due to all of this bad publicity. Doug previously hosted on WNDB (1150 AM) for two & a half years before being replaced earlier this year by Holly Hill Mayor (and former 1380 WELE Host) Roland Via. I think it was a dificult decision to pull off WELE because I know how much Doug enjoys the Radio Program. Unless DOUG were to move to one of the Religious Stations like WMFJ(1450),Liberal Talker WPUL(1590) or Big Band/MOR WSBB(1230) in New Smyrna I don't see many options.Rumor has it that 1340 WROD will join the Black Crow Family (WNDB,WKRO,WVYB & WHOG) and then again 1590 WPUL may also be joining Black Crow.I don't know if Black Crow will hire him back???

What has it been...three different local morning shows in the past 18 months on WELE? Greg Lake until April or May of 2008...then Gary Columbo for two or three months and then Doug Kosarek (If I remember correctly Imus was used briefly between Columbo and Doug's arrival). What happened to Greg Lake?

Although the judgment lien filed through Small Claims Court will, indeed, delay a station sale until the lien has been satisfied, Wings Communications has a much deeper issue at hand (I won't go into the details) that will prevent a sale once the leins are no longer an issue. In other words WELE and Wings Communications has multiple legal issues beyond the Small Claims Court judgment(s).

I wish you the best of luck in your Small Claims effort.

Foreclosure case filed yesterday (10-21-2009) in Volusia County - Clerk of the Court. National Loan Investors L P against Wings Communications (etc.) for $250,000,
Case #2009 34364 CICI. How can one owe that much on a place he got for virtually nothing?

Was he funneling money from the "Communications" business into other projects like the one or two airplanes he owned for Wing's Aviation business or the symphony project?

Back in 06 he said his newest business venture is Wings Aviation. The single-pilot, singleplane airline will service travelers around Florida and to island destinations such as Treasure Cay, Marsh Harbour, and Freeport and Nassau in the Bahamas. He said, "This is something we needed in the area for a long time," "We have a plane and we have a pilot. We are within a couple of weeks of getting Federal Aviation Administration certification, and then we are in business."

Whatever happened with the air charter venture Wilhite was planning? From what I had heard, I thought it was a "go"? He had a website www.gowings.com which said "Coming Soon" on the Homepage, then, suddenly, the website disappeared.

Not exactly. Something led up to the website disappearing whether that be loss of funding, change of plans, or some other reason. So, I really don't have the answer, but if anyone does, I'd appreciate hearing from them.

So if the bank calls in the loan we could see WELE go into Recievership.
