Welf Glen Ellyn

Prais posted back in april of 2009 comments about a large radio announcer he noticed at WELF. I (Rick Van Pelt) worked there as well for Dick & Betty Caughlin in the early 60's as well as WELG in Elgin. The first studio was very small as I recall with the studio window right off the street before moving to new facilities in a mall. The announcer you noticed in that window was Mike McDonald who did the early sign on shift before I relieved him around 10 am. After working there a short time, I got a call quite early one morning from Betty who said that Mike had passed away overnight and would I go in early. I believe he died of a heart attack and his weight might have had something to do with it. A nice gentle man. Anyway, I hope Prais gets this post.

I wonder if you and I were there at the same time. I remember McDonald - yes he was a heavy guy (didn't he come from WLS)?
