Well for now....

For now I'm back to Analog for DX'n HD sounds great, but it just drops out to much durring the day to be listened to. I can listen to analog all day without it droping out to the stations I am DX'n to. I hope they can fix this problem for HD but untill then I'll just keep my analog going, my HD still will pick up a few locals HDs which sound great.

jras20,

Now, you are coming to your senses - may I suggest an excellent $10 pocket-radio for AM DX'ing:

;D

I'm still going to use my HD radio for locals, but for dx'n my analog. How does that Sony compare to the Super radio? I got a Super radio it works pretty decent. But pretty bulky.

I'm sure the SuperRadio is more sensitive, given it's large internal ferrite-bar antenna, but I have been able to pick up everything with the little Sony, compared to a Grundig S350 that I almost smashed, but decided to return it to Radio Shack, instead (it is probably still sitting on the stores shelves after two years, waiting for another sucker to come along). I have read a lot of reviews about the SR, CCrane, and RS long-distance radios, and the build quality seems questionable (the S350 was total junk), plus the claims of super-reception seem really hyped.

Thanks will look into that it'll be great for out at the coast.

Remember, it is only ~ $10 on Amazon.com, sonystyle.com, and J&Rmusic.com, so don't expect miracles, but it is really sensitive, has good sound, and can be slipped into a shirt pocket. Most people on Amazon really liked it, except for a few:

I can't get to this link below, because we have a cleared facility and they block a lot of sites, but here is a good link, if you haven't already seen it, that explains the problems with some long-distance radios:

Huh.....I have a early-1980s Realistic DX-302 I bought at Goodwill last Spring (2006) for $50. I listen regularly to the local Music Of Your Life station on it (KKAD 1550) and sometimes Disney (KDZR 1640) in my office at work. I admit I am probably not using that rig to its full potential but in the kind of biulding I work in (no access to an external/outdoor aerial) listening to SW is a distinct challenge. Pulls in local MW stations just fine tho. (More transmitter power?)

Works *really* good. The old "Waddley Loop" tuner takes some time to get used to tho.

1190 KEX currently has IBAC channels. Reception of KEX during the daytime on the 302 is remarkably difficult because of the rig's very wide bandwidth. (Sometimes I can barely make out Rush Limblaugh above all the hash noise, not that I ever actually listen to him. I don't..........)

;D And just FYI, the only thing that's actually "digital" about its so-called "digital tuner" is the red LED numeric readout on the front panel above the speaker!! ;D
