Well, I finally did it...

After several years with XM... I finally canceled my subscription. The quality of the programming has really gone down hill since the merger IMHO. Anyone else cancel theirs??

Back to terrestrial radio, CDs and iPod.

I tried to cancel but they made me a good deal. The thought of regular radio drove me nuts. I will lat least have it another 3 months. I agree thoght the programming has gotten bad since the merger and they are adding more fees. I will hang with XM for a while longer, but I don't know how much longer

Yeah, I tried to cancel three months ago and they offered me three months for $13.95... then last night I opened my invoice and they wanted $60.37.

Three month's subscription: $38.95
Ability to listen online: $8.97
Invoice Fee: $2.00
US Music Royalty Fee: $5.94
Tax-State: $3.49
Tax-Local: $1.12
Total for Three Months: $60.37
Cancelling XM Forever: Priceless!

That cr@p jamming KMAD is why I got XM! The ____ with nichey, unpopular formats that only appeal to a tiny handful of listeners but jam frequencies that formerly had much better and more popular programming. The quality of XM may have gone downhill, but they still offer music better than what is on the air!

My real goal, though, is streaming in the car, and I think maybe the iPhone has the apps and unlimited internet - I'll have to read the fine print. Then it is goodbye to the monopoly of mediocre stations forever!

Be warned, your unlimited data package on an iPhone is NOT unlimited. AT&T could eventually nail you for excessive data usage. With all the network problems they're having due to iPhone data usage I expect they'll start clamping down in the near future.

We just reupped with SiriusXM because we do like the the following: Heart and Soul(which has gotten better since the merger), Backspin is back, SiriusXM Chill, Praise, the Groove and Watercolors. To us its worth the 4.99 per month we are paying. I just wish they had a music only option. I really don't care for the talk options they have.

Again sir KMAD is not getting "jammed" Here is the rule that was posted by JD on another thread:

Okay, but I'm not sure they'll be able to see it. The key words in the rule is "the smaller of:" (a) a 25-mile radius from the AM transmitter site; or (b) the 2 mV/m daytime contour of the AM station.

The "service area" of the translator can't go beyond the 2.0 contour of the AM station: www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KGGR&service=AM&status=L&hours=D (in this case the red contour is the 2.5mVm signal strength estimate, so subtract a little from it) The best guess for the 2.0 contour puts it into Tarrant County, likely around downtown Fort Worth or around 37 miles.

Now look at the 60dBu (red) contour for their translator, which is their "service area": www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=K273BJ&service=FX&status=L&hours=U

Originally the translator was located on the KDBN tower, which would have produced service area coverage into Tarrant County, but after being bought by Mortenson and moved to the KGGR site the translator's coverage falls well within the AM station's coverage area. In fact, it doesn't leave Dallas County. So it meets that test.

The pertinent part of the rule in this case, however, is the 25-mile radius from the AM site portion. It's that requirement, the lesser coverage of the two parts of the rule, that applies here and the 60bBu coverage of the translator doesn't extend further than 25 miles
.

Okay,s.

"Shouting" is not necessary, and is considered rude on message boards. I think everybody is aware you like your little nichey format that serves practically nobody. So enjoy it, every listener is probably vital to their miniscule ratings.

You are sure getting a bargain with the $5 a month. I subscribe to a "mostly music" package that cost $10 and probably went up due to performance royalties. I certainly did not want Howard Stern's foul mouth perversion in my car. But the music channels are really good. No Christian CHR or Christian rock, darn it - I haven't checked out the gospel channels because I don't care much for the format, but maybe I'll check out Heart and Soul some time. I find that down here in Houston, the gospel channel has the only Christian music that even approaches lively - the other stations are boring praise and worship. So you and I might be closer in musical taste than I thought - but the moment streaming is really real, and unlimited as another poster pointed out, I'll jump on it. Of course Houston is not only a Christian music desert, but there is no oldies station - maybe Chapman would have been wiser to open up something down here instead of a Dallas rim shot - he would have captured the disenfranchised oldies fans down here.

No I just wanted you to see it. So I was not shouting because I did not use caps.

hey Jeffddfw... They did the samething to me with the billing, but I called and jsut got the money they overcharged me today refunded. I hope this helps. Call em up!!

I canceled mine a few months ago. It was hard at first for me in the AM but now, with local radio, I get the weather and traffic which has come in handy once or twice.

I don't really miss it that much.

you most certainly can use your I-phone to stream radio thru "wunderradio" app....
if your car has an aux input you can plug it in and listen to anything online like a local...

I'm waiting for a real car radio that streams thru 4g. The technology exists and will likely require a monthly fee.
But if the average person is in the car for 30 minutes, 2 or 3 times a day, that's not a lot of usage...consider how
much you use your phone's 3 or 4g ...and pay what for that?.... If a car radio that streamed were offered in the five
to ten dollar a month service plan, I think it'd be well worth it...

They already have a internet capable radio for the car. some guy in Australia made it and patented
it. The End is near. or is it?

I'm keeping my XM. I do a lot of driving in my job to areas where the radio reception is either nonexistent or all Spanish. When I'm in the area, I usually listen to KRLD.
