Well, let's see how much credit I have built up here over 20+ years.

This is what I mean: The Big A slipped this in: She'd have them all arrested on live TV if she could. My only question is: How do you know that? Did she say that?

Here's what she said. This is the exact sentence that preceded the arrest:

"We are not going away. We are staying here to liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city."

And then Padilla was arrested. How does she "liberate the city?" The DHS already arrested the Mayor or Newark NJ. It's all taking place on TV. Nothing is happening in secret. Her aim is to have the federal government, led by the military, take over the government of Los Angeles and ultimately California. That's what she said.

This is the role of the media: radio and television, to report what's happening. This is being discussed right now on KFI, KNX, and KPCC. We here are discussing that media coverage.

Looks like we are headed down the slippery slope...

Brace yourselves for another thread lock!
I’m surprised this has gone on as long as it has. 🤣

Everyone's been very respectful. Nobody's attacking anyone. This is a thread that isn't in any traditional radio area. It's specifically in a moderator's area. It's completely up to them. Meanwhile, activities in the rest of the board have gone on completely unaffected.

Totally agree with The Big A. Everyone is being respectful and not attacking people. We are showing we can behave ourselves quite well. There must be a certain group of posters missing here from all the folks who have chimed in. I can think of about 4 offhand.

However, there is one post from one member that is far from a Trump fan. On this thread he posted this and I'd like to get thoughts on whether the 'colorful descriptions and scenarios' are indeed political:

"I would it would be of journalistic interest to know if we're paying J6ers, three-percenters, Proud Boys, Erik Prince mercenaries, or cops fired for disciplinary reasons to "round up the brown people". These (seeming) Rent-A-Cops can't take down gang members, so they go after low-hanging fruit...people who are trying to do it "the right way" and go to required check-ins, only to be arrested and manhandled into an elevator (while unconscious in one case). Asylum seekers (which Trump misunderstands as "people getting kicked out of asylums), and all sorts of classifications are now "illegal criminals".

Administration officials, including Trump, have used the language of ethnic cleansing when it comes to LA. This is frightening. Sen. Blackburn of my state lives in Fox News world, as far as she is concerned, the entirety of LA is on fire and overrun by terrorists. She called last night for the defunding of "radical NPR and PBS, so she'd like everyone to live in that world."

I also suspect that Lance moved it here and has let it run so that he has the perspectives of a wide group of regular participants to draw on as he decides what to do next.

Hmmm...haven't seen this thread, but maybe reopening the politics or anything but broadcasting (or an off topic) board would help if people want to discuss things outside the realm of direct broadcasting related matters. Maybe the radio/TV boards could talk more "internal" broadcasting matters and stuff pertaining to "external" things related to broadcasting could go there.

Think in the current political climate might be hard to keep a politics section tamed. Or a dedicated moderator who main purpose is to keep it in check. But there's other forums on the big wide web for politics.

I personally don't think it should be the role of the moderators to police content like that non-stop, as it is no fun for them. Trust me, I was a mod for a discord server a few years ago and it was a lot more difficult a task than you'd think.

When politics takes over and monopolizes something that should be fun and frivolous like talking about radio broadcasting, then that's the indication of something much worse going on in society. At times I worry and feel bad for Lance.
