We'll try this again...WLKK

I will try to resummarize my post yesterday..hopefully it sticks this time!

If Entercom were smart, they would have moved the format of the old WWKB complete with Danny in the Morning over to 107.7 and renamed it "KB-FM".

There was nothing wrong with the format...people want to hear the music on FM.
The opportunity was there, and they missed the boat.

They could have concentrated on the music similar to the Oldies 104 format under the guidance of Tom Schuh (1955-1973). I'd guess that they would have garnered not only their WWKB audience, but some of the WECK audience. It would have given Entercom a nice niche format to compliment their other stations.

I just think the folks in the corporate office in Philadelphia are in love personally with the "Lake" format, because it worked well in other areas.

They don't understand what Buffalo is and what Buffalo wants.

Devolution

The problem with The Lake has less to do with the music than it does with the presentation. Moving to the 1955-1973 era would attract an audience that's virtually unsellable, which means it won't make any money. If there was a marketable audience there, why would WHTT have changed?

Entercom is not in the charity business. If they're going to present niche programming, it's going to be targeted toward an audience that will attract advertisers. The Lake was originally positioned as an upscale product. Unfortunately, it's worn out its welcome by refusing to evolve into a product that's in synch with WNY listeners.

"Real Oldies" listeners will have to rely on special programming, Internet streams, or satellite radio for their fix. Maybe HD Radio will add an Oldies stream when that technology evolves into the giant that's pictured by the major radio groups.

Re: Devolution

I had a similar response... before it got erased... in addition, if Danny Nevereth couldnt save that station, do you really think an FM signal will??? Someone needs to wake up and realize the Oldies format as we knew it is dying. No one wants a station who caters to 60plus listeners.... their P-1s are dying, literally, why do you think Oldies stations are flipping in this country faster than pancakes at an IHop... Its not profitable anymore, WHTT evolved, and so will Entercom... they aren't going to keep "trying it out" just to be sentimental. Stop being naive, this is a business, thats the reality of it.

Now, with all that said, has the the 60% rule of ownership been kept on mind?
In some markets, Oldies will help, not hinder, as it sits as a station that is not competing with a sister station...right?

I'm only sorry the words "Listen again, in crystal clear FM stereo" will not help.<P ID="signature">______________
