Well....

I gues who ever it was that posted about Cox not going to do anything with 106.7 is right, I remember them saying that 106.7 was a Red-headed station. I think that station could do much better at either doing what the old KTFM did or 106.7jamz with a little more deaper hiphop. Its sad really. I'm almost thinking of going with Sirius at least then I can get some sports talk at night!

speakin of the old KTFM someone made a reference to the station last night at my karaoke show and the mentioned sunny melendrez. The old KTFM was great, and was the only station I listened to in SA as a kid before discovering alternative and harder rock where I then ventured to 99.5 KISS. It would be cool if the 'new' KTFM brought back the old format and the music as well. Maybe even some breakdance music. That stuff's still popular here right? Takes me back to the days of the breakdance kids in middle school.

Why cant those radio corps understand what San antonio really wants to hear?

You know I have had this conversation before. People just need to let the old KTFM rest in peace. If BMP changed 94.1 to the old KTFM format I think it would be a disaster. What this market really needs is a dance station. A TRUE dance station. Jamz ALMOST got it right back in the day but Cox pussed out and brought that Z crap upon us.

As much as everyone keeps saying that San Antonio needs a dance station. It will not happen. The only way that people know what this city needs as far as music is if you go to the clubs, dj events (ex. weddings, debuts, backyard parties etc) and music stores. It is obvious that the dance thing hasn't worked and it won't as long as corporate radio gives us a format that is probably from up north somewhere. Dance will not do good alone here. When 106 had a dance format it sounded good but ratings sucked and revenue was poor. I was working there when the transition happened. The concerts that were brought to SA were good dance artist but the ticket sales sucked and the promotion director at the time used some of his own cash flow to make things happen. Because Cox did not want to go over their lousy budjet and because they didn't believe in the format. When you are out within the people and talk to them but at the same time be open minded about the music 9 times out of 10 the two formats that will come to play are hip hop & a true chr format such as the old ktfm. It sounds to me that some people are going by preference in music instead of facts. Austin couldn't hold a dance station (Mega) and they are a college town. There top formats are country and news talk. Right now our top formats are hip hop, oldies and the obvious rock. So those are the facts. It's all about money. 106.7 is the red headed step child of cox. The music is still very popular in Sa at some of the clubs in fact on Fri June 16 there will be a reunion of dj's and everyone that us to go to the popular club known as IMAGE. It is going to be at a club called the venue on lexington street (downtown). I will post the website later. Peace

so in other words Z is going to stay around for a long time. I wish SA radio was more diverse. It's just spanish, country, hip hop, rock, top 40(which is basically hip hop). We don't have a true R&B station except on a crappy AM signal. Way to leave the urban community in the pit of AM radio. One of my favourite stations in Houston is Magic 102.1 because it's great urban music without rap. Smooth jazz should also come back, and not just on an HD2 format. I've heard some great smooth jazz stations like 95.7 in Houston that mixes soul and softer R&B music from yesterday and currents (ie Mariah Carey). Also, I don't hear a lot of regional Mexican in SA except on 720AM. Again, leaving good music on the AM band. And last but not least, classic country, which is still on AM here. It's like we're behind the times but try to stay current if you get what I am trying to say. My point is that SA radio can be a whole lot better than most of the junk that is played. I think us San Antonians have a broader and more diverse taste in music. I talk to a lot of people about SA radio and they all say the same thing; the music is repetitive and crappy. This is why I turned to XM so I can have music I want to hear. But this is the story in most cities across the US.

I think your right, I think it may be my time to say goodbye to SA radio and go to Satilite radio. Its sad Really I thought I would give SA radio another chance but I dont think any more.

Well at least with Digital Radio coming out now, AM will sound really close to FM. But yeah, I know of Cox owning another Dance station (miami fl I believe), and going to their website, that station seemed like it was really popular over there. But, it too has folded, apparently NOTHING is on that signal anymore. Dance music, while popular, seems to be something that should be played more in a Mix show rather than as an overall format.

The station you are thinking of, WPYM, lasted three years with a dance format. Never did set the Miami market on fire, and it was axed. It is now "Pure Rock" WHDR; check them out at http://93rock.com/ including streaming audio.

I'd like to talk to those with Sirius and XM, I'm not sure which to get. I love NFL, NBA I know Sirius has both. but who has a better dance channel, XM or Sirius? I have XM on my Direct TV system, but they just seem to repeat a lot. I do however like the mixshows. I'm not sure which to get, but I do believe I will get 1 soon, because I just cant stand this same old crap on the radio. Sorry, but thats the way I feel. One thing that may hold me back is that Victoria radio acually plays what I want to hear, they have much more stuff to choose from even though they dont have very many locally stations, they just have a lot of good music. Even a great all club/dance mixshow over the weekends plus one on Friday nights!

reality check....Z106.7 is a flanker station in the cox cluster. nothing more..... nothing less... They have several talented people over there but they have thier hands tied.as long as it attracts a few teens, young adults, and women... it will still be here....as for 106.7 Jamz....the music was great, but the billing wasnt! As for reliving the old KTFM.....it will never happen. If you were there it was a fun ride, it you were not then you were probably getting run over by us!The difference was KTFM was not corporate before infinity bought them out....you were allowed to be you, you were allowed to have personality and ideas...you were allowed to compete on the air, on the streets,, the jocks might not have been the best but everyone had fun! Obviously with corp radio you are not allowed to do that...thats why it will not happen again.ask benieben...he can tell you

Thats the problem with radio today! The "Corps" dont all know what people want to hear!

All right, here is the info I promised. The web site for the Image reunion party is www.stricklyjamin.com. The address and info is there. Hope you can come and enjoy a bit of Old School with us.Peace

Yes it was, It was a chain of teen clubs here in SA. There was Image South on Military Drive, Image North at the old Wonderland Mall which is now Crossroads Mall and Image West at the Las Palmas Shopping Center. It was the premier teen club chain in SA at the time. So if you were there, then come experience it one more time tonight. Hear your favorite old school music and maybe see some old school friends. Peace

I was down in the Coastal Bend over the weekend and really enjoyed 106.9-The Rock out of Victoria. It's a CC station, but it had a good mix of classic rock and very few interruptions. The station was announcerless while I was there, but I see from the web site that they have some air staff during the week.

Yeah, I think though they are all voice tracked station like Kix 108, but they have the NOAA on standby, if any bad weather is around or any kind of emergency it will brake in the station and alert, it was good when that hurricane came through. 1340 was simalcasting KAVU 25 giving out good infomation.

well i think alot of people don't like the hip hop or newer music and they want to listen to the older hits , that is why i really don't listen to much to austin's radio. i listen more to internet radio or something else.
