WEMP WIMPS OUT! Alt back on 101.9!

That didn't take very long at all!

Let's hope that CC doesn't get "cute" with 101.7 in Boston.

WKQX is scoring some pretty good #s in Chicago -- on a "Franken" channel 6 even!

Alternative lives!

Young the Giant- My Body
Verve Pipe- The Freshman

"New Rock"? Some of those songs are 20 years old.

Good point by the last poster. At some point 95% of the "alternative" stations in the US should start calling themselves "Classic alternative and the best new music."

But it's nice they brought an alt. rock format to 101.9 instead of the AAA/Tom Petty/Alt. format that they had on there before.

Remember guys, if we went strictly new like top 40 stations, we would have a limited playlist. With that said, I do believe alternative stations should become a little more risky with the playlist of modern rock songs. Yes, I can understand the dislikes of all the 90s but something that alternative stations are doing that I really don't like is that they are playing some brand new stuff and 90's. They have pretty much said too hell with the early 2k. Some of the earlier Strokes is never heard (except for Last Night) and you never hear Bloc Party. Hey, they were not underground; They had a few songs that made it to Alternative charts but Alternative has skipped this time period in music.

Adding...

Strokes
Bloc Party
Franz Ferdinand
Killers
Kaiser Chiefs
Interpol

...continue?

Never liked the WEMP call letters....Sounded too much like WIMP

And New York City already had two heritage powerhouse all-news stations. FM News was doomed at the start.

But the worst part is trying to get BACK the listeners they threw away. That's the problem with format switches today on terrestrial radio, you only end up CONVINCING people that the radio has gone to hell and they go to the web looking for replacements, from which they may never return.

I guess New or Modern Rock is termed as such to show it isn't Classic Rock no matter HOW old the song is. I'm happy to see some cities getting thier Modern/Alt stations back! Now if only DCs new All Newser would admit defeat and bring WHFS back to that frequency.

WHFS failed because DC101 morphed into Alternative (in the late 90s) - as long as DC101 exists, there's really no room for HFS to come back
