Wendy Bell, WTAE apparently reach settlement in discrimination lawsuit

Hearst Television and Wendy Bell has resolved a case over race in the lawsuit.

A federal race discrimination lawsuit brought by former WTAE-TV anchor Wendy Bell against the station appears to have been settled, although no terms are available and the lawyers are not commenting.

The parties agreed last week to dismiss the suit with prejudice, which means it can't be filed again.

A settlement conference scheduled for Jan. 18 had been canceled and the parties agreed Jan. 29 to drop the case. U.S. Magistrate Judge Cynthia Reed Eddy dismissed it, but there is no word of a settlement or other agreement.

Sam Cordes, Ms. Bell's lawyer, has not responded to several messages, nor have lawyers for WTAE's owner, Hearst Stations.
