WENT 1340 GLOVERSVILLE ON 105.1

WENT in Gloversville has been operating cross-band on 105.1 for about 3 weeks now. No mention of it on the air, they seem to be tight-lipped about it.

I think I see why WENT is mum about 105.1 FM. The translator is shown to be owned by digital radio Broadcasting, not WENT. They are operating on a CP only. Apparently looking at it as test programming. At some point there will be an ownership change and a license to cover and they will mention it. Is this a reasonable assumption?

I have a question Knickman. Do you know where Ed Stanley from WKOL is these days? Also, any ex WKOL personalities from the early 80's still working on the air in that area, WIZR, WENT, etc.?

I worked at WKOL in 1981-82 and am looking to try and find some old pals.

I spoke to Ed about 2 years ago. I worked for him at the former WSCG Corinth. He is in Lake Placid, Fl. running an internet radio service called the country bear. The only ex KOL personality I know about is Joe Loverro who is on mornings at WRIP, in Windham, Greene county.

Don't know if anyone has done any tracking on the signal yet......but I went to Amsterdam the other day, and started picking it up about 2 miles east of town. Then going up the Market St (Rt. 30) hill it started bleeding with WAMQ 105.1 Great Barrington. Once at the top (Hwy 18 - Hannaford etc) WENT was full & steady. Sounds pretty good!

At my house, (15 mi) east of Amsterdam I get WAMQ - :'( with no problems.

WENT's 105.1 is good in Broadalbin all the way out Rt 29 to Sara. co. The lower portion of the T/ Broadalbin along with much of the T/ Perth get WAMQ. Lower down rt 30 towards Amst. WAMQ is probably blocked by Crawford hill and the Helderbergs. I have not had a chance to evaluate it, but I would think that the Mayfield, and most of T/ Northampton (Northville area) would be good for WENT. Portions of the T/ Edinburg should also be good for WENT. The Caroga Lk area could be a problem. The elevation there is higher and the signal from WAMQ could rival that of WENT. You could not null it out either with a yagi antenna because the 2 will be in tandem. I have heard the signal in the Fonda-Fultonville area. The Fonda side is shadowed and noisy while across the river in Fultonville and the T/ Glen, its good.

Was in Mayfield and Northville areas today, good in Mayfield, but just above Mayfield to Northville there is co-channel interference from Gt. Barrington, Ma.

Great Barrington? That's random. The only logic I could see to that co-interference is the lake. And I'm not sure that that's the reason why.

Hey Knickman, on a side note, did you stop at Raindancer Restaurant in Amsterdam?

WENT is now id'ing 105.1 as W288BD. This was the call when it was on 105.5 licensed to Scotia. At some point it should be issued a call begining with W286.

The new call will be automatically issued when the FCC grants the license to cover, which they applied for in December.
