WENZ audio blips

For quite some time, I've noticed that on WENZ 107.9 FM, they have what I would call, little... audio blips, or dropouts or jumps. Most noticeable during music, I think I heard it on speech once. They are extremely short, like milli-seconds I'd call it.

I get the feeling this is done on purpose. Almost as if they are trying to "dirty" up the sound a bit if you will. I could be wrong though. Just a bit hard to believe they would let this happen for so long if it wasn't on purpose.

Would they really try to interfere with their air sound signal on purpose? What would be the benefit? Most likely something like that would be the result of poor maintenance IMO.

One station that was REALLY notorious for a crappy air sound was WKNR/850 during the Salem years. Terribly muddy, with occasional hissing and scratching at times. Came off as inferior-sounding. It was mostly attributed to the station using outdated equipment while still at 9446 Broadview; once they moved to the Galleria, the air sound automatically improved.
