WEOK 1390 True Oldies

Why doesn't WEOK have their own DJs on the station ? I would think they could have morning & afternnon drive show live with their own DJs.

I could not agree more. Nevertheless With WGNY-FM making a good showing in recent ratings books, I doubt WEOK would find it worthwhile to add a local show now.
However most likely comes down to money. It costs Cumulus little to plug a satellite receiver and computer into WEOK's transmitter, let the station run itself and forget about it. WEOK co-owned, simulcast partner station 1340 WALL Middletown has its own live morning show, but Mark West leases the time, actually paying Cumulus for the privilege. I assume he makes money back by commercial sales. Mega, debt-ridden groups like Cumulus don't care much about small market AM stations like WEOK, which has not shown up at all in the ratings in over a decade. I find that fact odd, four formats and nobody, with a diary anyway is listening. Even lowly WHVW has popped up a couple of times even if it was with a one or less.
BTW, the link for The True Oldies Channel stream sounds a lot better than listening to it on AM; it is actually the national feed .

Cume u less let local mgt bring in the TOC provided it didn't cost them anything. The LMA with Mark West and the wall was a stunning stroke of genius, and I credit local mgt for grabbing this great opportunity and running with it. Took something that was nothing and sold it. WEOK is run on such a showstring they won't hire anyone; I think live AM drive would be a great addition, and run it on the bird the rest of the time, but alas, no $$$ in the kitty for a live DJ. Too bad...plenty of potential. IMHO--98.9 has 'em beat hands down though...I stopped listening to TOC when 98.9 came on. WEOK doesn't even have any money for tee shirts, which is also too bad...live remotes at car shows and cruises would be a big help. my $.02 worth....

I must agree. I was critical of 98.9 when they first signed on. Now, it's hands down become a better station, as they have fine tuned themselves. They strive to keep it local, the music is better, the imaging is better and even the DJ's presentation has gotten better.
