WEOK/WALL Dumps "True Oldies Channel" Starting in Late June

I read an article this week that Cumulus Networks is ending the True Oldies Channel by the end of June. Is that mean that Scott Shannon is leaving to focus on doing mornings on CBS-FM? I found this link here.

http://radioinsight.com/blog/headlines/netgnomes/88178/true-oldies-channel-departing-cumulus/

It looks like WEOK/WALL is going to dump TOC in the next 3 months, but now that Townsquare owns the station, what's next for 1340 and 1390 AM? Are they going to flip to sports as CBS Sports Radio? Maybe, but well see what happens. And also, Army Sports games will also be moving to WBNR/WLNA's "Real Country" as I was mentioned in a previous article.

Now that Hudson Valley has no sports station at all. WGNY-AM pulled the plus on ESPN Radio on 1220 back last week where it flipped back to oldies, and many sports fans are frustrating about the change. WEPN-FM cannot get a good signal on 98.7 when it reached Newburgh and Poughkeepsie. I checked that Fox ESPN Radio is on 97.3 only and it had a weaker signal, and it is still covered by country's "The Wolf".

I wish if WEOK/WALL will be dropping the "True Oldies Channel" soon if Scott Shannon is leaving the network if Cumulus ends with TOC, maybe they will have another format on 1340 and 1390 in the future.

If you read the full story that you have linked from RadioInsight, Cumulus is starting their own "Good Time Oldies" network on April 28th. If WEOK/WALL stays oldies, wouldn't they go with the new Cumuls offering? Townsquare is already carrying TOC from Cumulus.

I think the question is does Townsquare Media want to stick with oldies which is well covered on FM by WGNY & WBPM. Nothing tried on WEOK&WALL in more than the past decade has garnered any ratings.

was it ever supposed to? I was under the assumption it was just something to keep the transmitter warm.

To a point perhaps; the formats mostly have been low cost. But, from a business perspective what is the point of keeping the transmitter warm just for the sake of keeping the license alive, with no hope of a profit ?

Not sure. It's THE real question for most 'small' AMs in non major markets around the country these days. See recent news for WGHQ.

Where did you hear WALL-WEOK to ESPN or Simulcast of WKNY ?

I guess someone did it a while back. Back in 2000, WEOK/WALL flipped to ESPN Radio and it bombed after 3 years until it flipped to Spanish as "El Ritmo" and then to "Radio Disney" a year later in 2004 and remained until 2008 or 2009 when it flipped to TOC.

I hope that in the few weeks, the "True Oldies Channel" will be gone for good. Scott Shannon like I said is focusing on doing mornings on WCBS-FM. I just posted on WEOK/WALL's Facebook page about a week or two ago that the station will Siberia flip to CBS Sports Radio or they should stay where it soon to become "Good Time Oldies".

As of right now, WEOK/WALL is not bringing ESPN Radio back, because it's on WGNY-AM 1220 as well as 94.1, 95.7 and 97.3 as "Fox 1220 ESPN Radio". I hope that maybe after June 28th, they should simulcast WKNY, maybe or maybe not. Well see what happens in the next couple of weeks.
