WE'RE #13. Go team!

I just happened to notice that the Seattle-Tacoma market has inched up to the 13th Arbitron market, edging Puerto Rico.

>13. Seattle - Tacoma - 3,353,200 - Fall 2008 Phase I<

Thanks to all the new folks who made it happen. Keep breeding those little listeners and we'll keep playing the tunes for Mom and Dad.

Now, what is U-Haul going to do with all those empty trucks and trailers that keep ending up here from (mostly) California?

I know one rank doesn't really amount to much, but I do wish they'd yank Puerto Rico the hell outa the market rankings.

Ridiculous.

Haha that is because all the Puerto Ricans are moving here. Time to bust out the Rosetta Stone Software and start brushing up on my Spanish...

I always thought Seattle was #13 in the first place. I'm surprised it hadn't moved up to #12 or even #10 with the population expansion in this area over the last 20 years.....

I'm pretty sure Seattle was #13 before. It was the addition of Puerto Rico to the rankings a number of years ago that pushed Seattle back a notch.

In other ranking news, Seattle is close to being #32 (last) in the NFL power rankings.

So, who can fill me in on he history of Seattle's ranking in the Arbitrons? Have they always been a Top 15? 20? 50? Is there ever a time when Seattle was less than a Top 100 Market?

Probably 1919. But the fat was in the fire by 1920 when KJR, KFBL (now KRKO) and KTW (now KKDZ) signed on....

Great answer, but...

Arbitron's beginnings go back to the 1950's. My guess is Seattle was a Top 30 or Top 35 market back then. The city population wasn't that much smaller, but the metro was not very big at all.
