We're Gonna Rock On To... "Bad Dog" Avenue

We've been told for weeks that Alabama Avenue was going to be re-named for John "Bad Dog" McCormack.

When I saw the video online, I was disappointed to find out that it is not really a re-naming, but one of those silly "honorary" signs.

John tirelessly raised millions of dollars for the Ronald McDonald House and St. Jude. Couldn't they have done a genuine re-naming?

And if you think honorary signs equate to re-naming of a street, let me ask you a question:

When is the last time you drove on Vera Ford Parkway or James Netters Parkway?

The reason you probably don't remember is because everyone calls them Riverside Drive and Third Street, respectively.

So in Memphis, Tennessee, Cornelia Crenshaw refuses to pay her utility bill and gets a library named after her.

John McCormack dedicates his life to helping children with cancer and gets a little metal sign.

I would guess it becomes a little complex and expensive to fully rename a street. That may be why all over town you see the placards commemorating the memory of certain individuals, and this comment is certainly not intended to in any way denigrate the the memory or the good deeds of Bad Dog.
