We're So Sorry, Mr. Mitchell

Did you get a load of the comments from the 95X programming chief in last week's P-S piece on Gomez & Dave?...

"Mitchell argues, though, that 95X remains a better fit for listeners who want a funny and topical morning show that's "highly prepared, timed and edited.'"

HUH?!? They're getting slaughtered by Gomez & Dave by like 9 points but Barbie & Ken are still a better fit for radio fans because their show is better timed and edited??? Who writes Mr. Mitchell's logic? The folks at FEMA?

Barbie & Ken must be saying, "Hey, thanks a lot, Mr. Mitchell, for telling everyone that we run a good clock." Way to go, boss. Big help. That vote of confidence will really help us as we try and land a third affiliate in, say, Nebraska! Today...Tuscaloosa & Syracuse. Someday...Omaha!

Meanwhile, Gomez & Dave I'm sure both have their stopwatches around their necks now to see how their show is timing out every day. Screw the strong writing, spontaneous humor, and sharp production...our time-checks are first-rate! It's 7:24:30 and 45 chilly degrees on your Monday morning! Kickin' ass with the time and temp!!! Tuesday, be sure to tune in for Recipes with Gomez & Dave.

Can't remember the last time anyone handed out awards for The Best Timed & Edited Morning Show, but if 95X would like to claim that prize, I'm sure the folks over at TK will be glad to concede. Gomez & Dave will have to settle for winning the battles for Most Entertaining and Top-Rated. I know, I know, that's like drawing the "Third Runner-Up in a Beauty Contest" card from the Community Chest pile in Monopoly. But someone's gotta get the $45 (which is a number I bet they'd LOVE to be getting for :60 spots right now over at The Dog!)

I know one thing: when I fill out my ratings diary this week (and, yes, I did receive one), I'll be sure to write in the EXACT time I listened to 95X in the morning. I remember precisely! Because they're so well-timed! Thank God, where I came from before Syracuse, they never had a morning show that was any good at that.

Ack!

>snippage of very well written rant

Heh. That's a classic.

Here's the only part I didn't like. Mock their show, mock their wives, mock their children, but never, ever joke about tampering with ratings diaries. It never turns out well. Trust me, I found out the hard way.

Your friend forever,

Mitchell's Gone With the Wind

Picking on Mr. Mitchell is essentially beating a dead horse. He's gone, and his replacement is on the way.

Gee, it's almost like Gomer was hired to be fired - left to deal with the demise of Howard and the aftermath - while the GSM (a buddy of Mr. Legrett's)was sent to Erie for a little seasoning as GM.

Nah, that can't be true. NOBODY is that Machiavellian, are they?

"strong writing, spontaneous humor, and sharp production"

you CANNOT be talking about Gomer & Dope errrr Gomez & Wish I was a sports guy.... errrrrr Worst Delivery & Obnoxious Arrogant Prick!!!

Strong writing???? Have they ever written anything??? I only hear them blabbing about some lame news story that boob job offered up or some golf course plugola stuff.

Spontaneous humor??? Them laughing at each other?? Them talking to some shoe shine guy??? Please... most UNFUNNY thing in Syracuse since Reith saying he's not in bed with Destiny.

Sharp production??? excuse me... are we talking about the same show that barely knows when a phone call is on the air. The same show that can't manage to produce one single homegrown bit its pathetic. Take your homer ideas somewhere else and realize this show is nothing short of AWFUL. Simply put the WORST show on radio.. oh wait thats on Galaxy's other rock station.

Re: "Ed's" comments

Yes, I have become a fan of the Gomez & Dave show, which (much to your oblivious ignorance) has produced many fantastic homegrown comedy bits over the past few years, such as the recent knock-offs about the mayoral mess in Oswego, numerous songs about Coach Boeheim and his basketball team, or the weekly anti-fight songs for the Syracuse football opponents, or the song about the Minnesota Vikings sex-cruise that got re-played on national TV, or an hilarious musical take on the closing of the Hutchings hospital, or the slew of local funny oddballs (which are either well-written, well-acted characters OR actual listeners phoning in with their real or put-on personalities...a positive mark in any case), or the original games they invent for their show.

I've lived in a lot of places. And, you know what...Gomez & Dave are just as good (or bad) as the top-rated morning shows in Chicago or Pittsburgh or Houston or Toledo. And there were always crappier shows nipping at the edges in those places.

Maybe the only reason they appear uncreative is the lack of boner fide competition around the dial now that the previous #1 rock show in town (Howard Stern) has gone. Competition is supposed to make you stronger, right? But there are no other choices for the rock audience, unless you'd consider as competition (A) the uncreative, washed-up, minor league pro wrestling manager-turned lech on one channel or (B) the other station's punny, giggly, derivative schoolgirls residing in New Jersey and/or Alabama and/or Delusion, whose microscopic audience either doesn't realize that they're just keeping the seat warm for the David Lee Roth Experiment or doesn't know any better. Actually, the only other valid outlet for entertainment around here (manly or otherwise) is, sadly, probably the Ted & Amy program.

But, of course, you'd be blind to ANY of this, because you're probably too busy counting the hours until the next reality TV show comes on the tube and takes you away from the drudgery that is your life. Oh, look: another riveting episode of Big Brother...must dash! Me...I'm just wasting MY life writing this crap!

You actually put "entertainment" and "Ted & Amy" in the same sentence? Shame on you!
